Default The Djinn Master

This encounter, IMO, is one of the most well thought out encounters ever made in EQ2, and one of the toughest to beat when ur at the proper level. Actually, I think that beating this encounter at lvl 60 was more of an achievement than beating at least 95% of the mobs right now. Anyway, being pretty much my favorite encounter, I figured id write up the strat to it for everyone.

The basic idea of the encounter is pretty simple - put the instruments around in a circle, move The Djinn Master to the center, root him with a musicbox (from the quest "The Handcrafted Music Box"), play the instruments in order, kill the adds, and repeat. Doing it is the tricky part.

The first thing you have to do is figure out which song you will be playing. The "sheet music" for the songs drop off of the three nameds earlier in the zone, each with its own name. And to know which one you have to play, you need to pay attention to the big popup text when you first zone in or when you revive.

These are the songs that drop

Now, when you get to the Djinn Master's room, the first thing you need to do is take care of the stray Djinn around the place. Each one in the big group of 6 drops an instrument that you need to kill The Djinn Master with. The instruments are as follows:

Rizlona's Bone Xylophone
The Lute of Kelkarn
Selo's Rhythmic Drum
Sirran's Joyful Jug
Kazumi's Chimes
Brusco's Golden Harp

Now your next task is to place them. To figure out the exact placement for them, right click and examine each one and you get two messages saying "xx is too close/far to yy to harmonize with it". In other words each instrument is checked with two other instruments for placement. When an instrument is placed perfectly in position of both other instruments, you will see some red glowing notes start to circle it - thats how you know you did it right.

To make it easier on you, here are the locations you should place each one:
Chimes - (-241.62, -4.25, -90.81)
Jug - (-255.36, -4.91, -84.13)
Lute - (-251.02, -4.12, -70.64)
Harp - (-236.69, -5.62, -69.33)
Xylophone - (-225.96, -4.57, -75.83)
Drum - (-228.56, -4.87, -89.97)

So get 6 people in the raid to pick an instrument and make a /waypoint macro for it, and a 7th person to make all the macros so that he can fine-tune the placement. It's usually best for that 7th person to be an Illusionist or Coercer, because they can invis themselves the whole fight, making them AoE immune. Now would be a good time to practice setting up the instruments so that everyone gets the hang of it - because you are going to need to do it fast.

Now, make sure everyone's backs are to the wall behind the instruments, and pull. Now, the first thing you will notice is that you can't damage him much because he keeps healing himself. You are going to need to bring him right in the center of those instruments and root him with a musicbox. To make sure he is in the middle before rooting him, keep right clicking any instrument until the "Play...." option comes up. Once it does, that means that he is in the center. You are going to want to make sure you get it right every time, because after using 4 musicboxes he goes immune, and the encounter is pretty much unbeatable at that point. Another thing to keep in mind - if it takes you more than 60 seconds to root him and play the instruments then he starts using an AE knockback/root (hence the back to the wall thing). So make sure u get those instruments placed and played as fast as possible. Once you play the instruments 4 times, you can finally kill him.

Now, I assume you would like to know what the order to play the instruments is. Well, look at the pseudo-sheet music and read it like this:

C/D - Lute
E - Harp
F - Xylophone
G - Drum
A - Chimes
B - Jug

And for the lazy people, heres a list of exactly what to play.

Song of the Muse
Verse 1
Jug
Drum
Lute
Harp
Chimes
Xylophone
Verse 2
Chimes
Drum
Jug
Xylophone
Lute

Verse 3

Verse 3

Verse 4

Ballad of Temptation
Verse 1
Xylophone

Verse 2

Chimes
Jug
Drum
Verse 3

Verse 4

And don't worry, after you try him once (if you haven't already) and get the hang of it he becomes a walk in the park.

Default Re: The Djinn Master

Thier are countless ways to do this fight imho, as far as where to position DM and such but the general idea is right.

I will agree though beating this mob at level 60 (Even though it was a WW3rd) was the best and most amazing feeling in my entire EQ2 Career hands down, it took so much focus, practice, and was so mechanically difficult as well (DMP hit like a train) that I still hold it as my #1 Encounter of all time.

We need more Encounters like this in all games imho.
