Should Vick be banned from the NFL?

There has been a lot of heated discussion about this and im surpised this hasnt really been brought up.

I feel there is no need to permanently ban him from the NFL.

why?

His crime had absolutely nothing to do with his occupation. If this were to be another pete rose scandal or NBA ref scandal i could compltely see the correlation of how he had somehow compromised his job or occupation. If you are an accountant and commit murder is your CPA revoked? of course not, it has nothing to do with competence of securing your livlihood.

with that being said the crime he committed IS grotesque. It is punishable by jailtime, fines, and a felony conviction the rest of his life. In addition i don't feel the NFL should make a decision banning someone from an offense completely unrelated to the "field".

I don't know a whole lot of this situation, but don't the profession sports leagues have a morality clause in their contracts that the players sign? I think the idea is that these players, being in the public eye, have a responsibility of being good role models. But even if that isn't their job...if they sign a contract giving that sort of control in their personal lives, then thats how it goes!

he signed it with the falcons for that if that is ever violated they can terminate the contract with him and incur no penalties, fines, or be free from litigation.

well it can't technically be official until he makes a formal plea of guilty which i believe will be monday.

I think it has more to do with "looking bad" than anything. It would look like they condone what he did if they accept him back and keep giving him millions of dollars. The thing is, what team is really going to want him after this? Sure, there are guys in the NFL with "colorful histories" but how many out there have convictions and jail time for something so inhumane?

The guy killed dogs for SPORT. He should have people turning their nose up at him from the NFL all the way down to the pimply McDonalds manager when he comes begging for a job.

i thought they couldn't do anything till the NFL finishes their investigation

either way, imo he should be kept in ATL, he is like, 40% of their fanbase, he puts people in the stands

as for what teams will take him?

He's done. He never reached his potential and once he's suspended a year+ he'll be too old for most teams to take a gamble. At best he'll turn into some kinda combo RB/WR or a 3rd string QB.

At the minimum, incarceration will make him unable to play based on his own illegal out of game actions, so that will relieve the Falcons from any obligation they may have had under the contract.

And yes, he'll do time, I guarantee it.

How about the fact the NFL is one of the greatest products this county produces, and its full of thugs. The NFL needs to take a stand and clean up is player base.

In almost every job out there, they have a "outside of work conduct" statement in their employee hand book. The NFL is no different.
