The new Otep CD has arrived! After an almost seven month delay from the albums original release date in april because of corporate fucktardeom The Ascension hit the shelves and internet download sites today. Released on the Eve of halloween for a reason? Maybe so. This cd comes full circle in every way for otep and her band of mastermind musicans that they killer noise 5 night a week from constant touring to spread an anarchist radical message thru her words again the current presidental administration. Lyrics inspired by a hatred for war and being sexually abused as a young girl fuel the anger in Otep's poetry. While such anger is present in her stage show and music she is a strong advocate for equal rights and helping people battle drug addictions, alcohol abuse and domestic problems in the home. All this lead to the 3rd album by this femenist assassin armed with only her choice weapon of words. There is a strong return to the rhythmic sounds of the self titled song such as tric, filthee and emptee in such new reccords as "Eat the children" and "March of the Martyrs." And continues in the brutal deathmetalish sounds of House of secrets in songs as Crooked Spoons and Noose & Nail. Otep seems to have limited the more poetry recidal tracks on this cd to make room for more music which is good to me but there are still a few such as andrenochrome dreams at the end for those that like that. The most amazing part of this album is the new sounds demonstrated by this metal messiah in the songs Perfectly flawed and breed. The only way to describe these tracks is as if you were rolling in the ocean being tossed back and forth by sharks tearing at your flesh with each toss back and forth. While in an extrememly smooth and rolling rhythm the song still strikes hard and makes you want to beat somebody in the face.
I reccomend this album to anybody that loves heavy metal, smooth rhythmic beats and a pound you in the pooper attitude in thier music.
