Okay, here is the
link to the story.
Basically, a cop used a person flicking a cig out of the window as an excuse to pull them over.
This pisses me off because in my area, we have a seatbelt law that was initially signed into law on the understanding that NO officer could pull over someone for simply not wearing a seatbelt.
Its not a moving violation, and it in no way hampers a persons ability to drive.
This has changed, who knows when really...but now, Delaware police will pull anyone over for no seatbelt, and then use that as an opportunity to write more tickets...for violations that they could not detect without stopping them.
Now I read that they stop this family (in some other state...probably TX) for flicking a butt...now granted, wtf is an ashtray for? They obviously should have done the pc thing and snuffed it in the tray.
But to use this "offense" as just cause to pull over and investigate further is in my opinion wrong.
Why is it wrong when it contributes to the arrests and convictions of lawbreakers?
Because most of these lawbreakers are people who are being ticketed for no proof of insurance, no proof of license, no registration, or other more pedestrian charges.
They are not making multiple for arrests involving DUI's, Narcotics, or arresting violent criminals.
It is in my opinon a clear violation of our freedoms as Americans to have a trip in a car, with no moving violations without being hassled for some ridiculous charge as no seat belt or flicking a cigarette.
It may seem like some trivial thing to attatch to a basic idea as freedom, however, freedom is in no way basic...freedom is a complicated beast and must not be contained lest you wish to anger the beast.

Yeah....I get mad at the news and stuff.
