Default Re: Berkeley City Council Voted to remove U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station

They had something similar go on in Ruerto Rico not too long ago... These places need to keep in mind, selective service can kick in at any time. I'd rather see someone sign up who wants to be involved, rather than conscripting people who just had the luck to get picked out of a hat.

Nobody wants to go back to the days where people who just don't belong there intentionally injure themselves to keep out of the military... (ever see the movie with Jan Michael Vincent where he has a friend beat the shit out of him with a cane to get out of service?)

I volunteered for the army the week Desert Storm started back in the 90's, but they didn't want me because I had some headaches when I was a kid. I wish I had gotten in, as it would have been a great experience.

On another note yes even as a Verteran I do belive Military recruiters are a bit aggressive sometimes and they can lie to potental recruites and it's wrong. I think for high school, they should only be allowed to talk to seniors and it should only be done a few times a quarter in a job seminar type forum. As for college, well if companies can recruit on campus so should the military yea know.
If somebody says no to the Military, they should just leave that person alone. Do they? No, they don't. They continue to harass, yes they harass, people over and over until they either give in, or they just make up some bullshit to get them away. You know how many times those fuckers kept calling me after I graduated from High School all because my school required me to take the retarded ASVAB? They called once every 2-3 days. They wouldn't stop calling, I told them no multiple times. I am not interested. They are worse than telemarketers, you know what I had to tell them in the end to get them to leave me the fuck alone? I told them I was a Socialist, and that they can just leave me alone.

It worked. But seriously, they are fucking annoying, if anybody else called me up as often as they did after I said no multiple times, I probably could sue them for harassment. But alas, this is the military, they seemingly get away with doing it. This is why I'm against recruiters because they're fucking assholes who won't take "NO" for an answer.

"Federal aid" is how the federal government goads the states into giving it powers that the Constitution wouldn't.

Not if you can't get people to join it.

I was on the fence if I wanted to join the army or not. I had the recruiter over at my house, told him I wanted to think about it before signing up and never heard back from him after that.

Because I can tell you first hand exactly how recruiting works, here is a recruiters insight on recruiting:

Grow some fucking NUTS! 99% of the kids I talk to on recruiting duty simply do not tell me what they really feel like. If you tell me point blank "no I am not interested," I will leave you alone for a while. After a while (meaning 1+ months- usually 3 months), I will contact you again and see if anything has changed. Where the "harrassing" comes into play is from those kids who are wishy washy on answers and in a sense force the recruiters to bug you in order to do their job. Now if someone pesters you 24/7, that is overboard. You also have to understand we have certain rules and regs we HAVE to follow set forth by people above our heads. Do certain things happen on recruiting duty that shouldn't? Yes there are and they are inexcusable. A recruiter should be professional at all times. For the hot heads who said "he won't leave me alone," 9 times out of 10 it is because you simply were not upfront with your response to them.

Dude, stfu. I told the guy flat out, no I am not interested. Leave me alone. He continued to call. So don't fucking give me that bullshit. Not everybody is the same, the recruiter that tried to recruit me would not leave me the fuck alone. I told him I was not interested, he still called. He would not leave me alone. I don't fuck around with people. I tell people the way I feel flat out. If this guy couldn't take a no then fuck him. Also fuck Ohio for having stupid rules where your high school has to offer some dumb "collegey" entrance exame and my high school forcing me to take the ASVAB. So fuck you.

NO, I'm pretty sure it'd be a fuck you. Did I say you directly? I said not all recruiters follow the rules and there is no excuse for that. You know a simple phone call would have corrected the problem? All you had to do was call up his CO.

Sorry but no. If I tell somebody no, they should stop calling, I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to find out who the fuck this guy's CO is or whatever. He should take the step himself and stop fucking calling. Then gain, obviously they like being run like a telemarketing firm. Keep calling till they give in and say yes. That's the way they run. I'm sorry that you think otherwise. Everybody I know that got forced to take the retarded ASVAB got multiple calls and harassment style about it and they wouldn't take no for an answer.
