I think Berkley might have taken this a bit too far, however, I do understand what people are saying about the recruiters being too invasive. They call me a lot leaving voice messages such as "Hey man I just changed my number, call me back at (leaves number)". They do not leave a name or anything. That just pisses me off.

They also do not take no for an answer. I tell them I am in college and am not interested in joining the army and they continue to call me all the time asking if I changed my mind. If I change my mind I will let you know. Calling me repeatedly will just push me away even further.

Many countries have mandatory military service and I believe that the U.S. should also. It would put an end to the recruiting problem that some have and may even make men out of the boys. Canada would get an influx of hippies, maybe even Mexico. That would be funny watching the them bump into the Mexicans trying to get in as they cross the border heading south.

This is one of the dumbest arguments I hear repeatedly. So it's not enough that you enjoy military service, it should be force on everyone else?

Mandatory service is a slap in the face to everyone who died creating a country based on liberties, and freedom of choice. Washington is rolling in his grave.

Berkeley City Council moderates anti-Marine position - CNN.com

And the Military WINS, guess they really did want there federal funding.

Man people in this country are really stupide, burning our flag, those people should be deported to some third world country and see how they like life then, maybe appreciate things more.

On another note, I mean if people put half the effort into reasearching and studing about the middle east, islam and how terror groups work and think as they do protesting the military they would understand untill Iraq and even Afganistan is stable we will be there. Like we can just pull out and go back to the way it was, wont happen folks, not for a long time.

Honestly, it's not a dumb argument. With todays kids and there give me what I want now now now and with them being as selfish as hell and haveing no respect for others. It would instill some good values, work ethics and could provide a education for our future generations. Not only that I think it would instill some patriotism and people would have a way better understanding of how mean and cruel the real world is and there for they would appreciate more some of the things we take for granted on a daily bases.

As for liberities and freedom of choice, well I love America but brada there is allot of things that we have no choice over period and that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

I love how choice only comes into play on certain issues. Can I have a choice on whether to pay into the health care system being proposed? Can bar owners (in some states) have a choice on whether to allow smoking or not? The list goes on and on.

You do have a choice whether to pay into the health care system being proposed. You vote for the people who make the decisions, thus you can let them know your feelings on it and why.

Bar owners did have a choice, they let it go through without fighting it very hard.

We have a choice for everything, some people are just too lazy to get out and say no to things and let them happen and THEN say, but I wanted to have a choice, waaaaaaaaaaaah.

So if I don't vote for someone proposing the new health care system, can I then not pay into said healthcare system? Why should I be punished for people making bad decisions, and I mean both the people proposing the system and those who voted for them.

'Bad decision' is subjective; however, if you ever feel your being punished too harshly, you could just leave. Thats one choice you'll always have.

I'd love to leave the country, but sometimes as part of a punishment that's not an option. So you in fact are incorrect there.

Mandatory military service imo is a good idea. Maybe not the best idea for America, but a good idea for a productive society.
