Well, I lost alllllllllllllll my 4k songs when I recently had to reformat my cpu. Ya ya ya, I'm a fuckin retard for not backing them up....blah!


Just got my cpu back up and running and was hoping I could get some ideas for bands to download. Just to give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I've dl'd groups like Disturbed, Nickelback, Trapt, Papa Roach, Silverstein, Atreyu, 3 Doors Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Evanesence so far, and I'm running out of ideas lol.

Oh ya, I like alot of 80's music too, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake etc. I mostly listen to Punk, Rock, Hard rock, some rap and R&B etc. Thanks!

LOL. I always dump my lists to a *txt file and print it. But I stopped DLing music a while back. I just buy a CD or stream it if I like it. And iTunes is theives.

Good for you on expanding your musical tastes.

First if you like you can start off with http://www.music-map.com/. How that works is you type in a band/artist you like and according to that it finds other bands and artists similar to yours and arranges them on the screen like a mind map. Very cool.

Have a band picked that looks interesting but can't decide whether you like them/haven't heard anything by them? Try http://www.seeqpod.com/ (originally posted by Switch) or http://www.musgle.com/. Seeqpod works by typing in the band name and clicking search, where it finds mp3's online for you to stream. I think there's a way you can download them, but I haven't figured out how/never really bothered. Musgle works exactly like Google. Type in a band name, and it finds mp3's of them you can listen to online/download. Pretty handy.

Finally if you have that song stuck in your head, but can't remember the name try http://findmeatune.com/. Just type in any song lyrics you remember and it should give you a name. It hasn't been very reliable for me, but some of you might have better luck.

I hope this helps, if any of you have any other suggestions, post them up. I'll edit them into this post. A mod might even sticky it?

Last.FM. Works kind of like a radio station. Type in a band you like and it finds similar artists on certain stations for you to listen to. If you want to use it you need to sign up and download the software, but it doesn't take that long. Thanks Aoife.

PureVolume.com hosts a load of signed and unsigned bands for you to listen to. Thanks Beermonster.

Sectionz.com to listen and download free electronic songs. Beatport.com acts more like a directory for finding electronic artists, downloads are not free. Thanks Exetra.

ProjectPlaylist.com is the same thing as Seeqpod. Thanks Matt.

Songza.com works the same way as Project Playlist and Seeqpod do and it can find covers, live tracks etc.

I've always been fond of Within Temptation. Similar to Evanescence. but better. *nods* That music map thing is interesting, it put Evanescence literally right next to Within Temptation. ^.^ I enjoy Shakra too; they came up once when I did for gothic rock; hadn't heard of them before that, heh.
