CDs and DVDs are open formats, so no, we didn't.

I have a HD and BR player so w/e, but I would have preferred HD winning because of Sony's gay licensing bullshit.

It would be folly to underestimate piracy tecnology, but still...

Im not sure what you mean.. I was referring to the fact that when CD's came out they were expensive as fuck.. Had to be ripped, which back then turned most tracks to shit. If you were one of the lucky few to have a burner, it took an hour to burn an hours worth of music. And discs werent cheap. Over time that all changed..

Same with DVD's, and the same will happen with bluray.

You really really really hate sony I guess. Theres no point in going back and forth anymore. Your stance is obvious.

There's licensing fees present with Bluray that aren't present with CD and DVD. The price will drop, but only to a very high valley, because Sony makes a cut of every single disc pressed.

With CD and DVD, as long as you met the specifications, you could press discs all you wanted without paying a dime (other than the obvious costs of manufacture). Do you really think Sony's going to take such a tiny cut as to allow manufacturers to profit off $0.12 discs?

Down the road, without a doubt. Every piece of technology comes down eventually. If I had to pay around $1 a disc 7 years from now, Id still be happy. Im not sure why you think its so improbable for any decrease. We arent talking about Gold or Platinum. This is something that over time will again be obsolete.

Sure theyre gonna bank now thats its a new thing, but down the road theyll adhear to the consumer and make the blank media's inexpensive to continue the success of the format / medium.

We'll have to have this conversation again in 5 or so years.
