Re: SoE Pwnd
he's just really into games I guess. But whatever, I don't care who starts the company. But it sounds like he's in line with the rest of us. Knows that PC games are sucking the donkey balls and wants to try to make it better.
I hope. Cheers to you Curt!

Re: SoE Pwnd
The tie in with SOE is kind of interesting, if this was somehow supported by SOE like Sigil it would make a lot more sense.
They hire the guy to do some promotion, he gets to speak to some of the "higher ups" and goes "hey guys, i wanna start my own company after this, what do you think?", they spare some of their non-essential personnel for some kind of publishing agreement or something, and he's well on his way and managed to create some press in the meantime. (Remember back when Vanguard was the "SOE killer" and how SOE was doomed as soon as it was released? =p)
The other option would be the obvious one; He's really into games, he did his promotion and got in contact with some of the people now involved in his project, he pushed his idea, got some investors and stuff and now hes "sticking it to the man" by stealing SOE employees to his project.
Either way its creating "Hype" and its gonna be interesting to see what they come up with and how the whole thing turns out.

Re: SoE Pwnd
Schilling has played EQ for a long time, and then EQ2 til the beginning of KoS (when baseball season started) - so he was a huge gamer. He always went to fanfar's etc...
Since starting a company up, would have had to been in the works for a while...and SOE had to have known about it, I think the fact that they still made a Curt Schilling promotion (on the Isle), shows they are somehow going to be involved in GMG.
As Gaige stated, my money is on the marketing, and distribution side like Sigil....while they do have a lot of money behind them, running a huge MMO is very, very costly....
It would make perfect sense to partner up with SoE for certain things....at least in my opnion it would.

It does, not just for GMG, but Sony as well. The Everquest dream has come and gone. But, Sony is still interested in the MMO market. With Vangaurd and maybe this GMG venture, they will have a steak in the MMO market for at least the next 3-4 years, without sinking a shit-ton of money into development. Servers/bandwidth are cheap compared to people. Let 3rd party design houses make the content, and you supply a platform to serve it up.
It looks like a bad blow for Sony only because they lost a few highly visible people. But on the back end, this is a good move for Sony, in the long run. Also, I dont think a "community manager" is an essential part of a project. It's a PR position, and I don't understand why people put so much stock in Blackguard.

Re: SoE Pwnd
Don't forget SOE's unknown project, their pay per item game. I never actually heard much about it other then the mention of it in a few dev posts. Apparently its supposed to be a game without a monthly fee, instead you pay for stuff like extra bankspace and so on. I wonder what happened to it, as i recall they stated "fall" as the release date (don't know if it was last fall or the coming fall).
Anyone know more about this project whatever it is?

SOE grabbing the maintenance and marketing of products could very possibly be the direction they are going. The trend for a lot of video games seems to be outsourcing (look at SOGA). They've still got at least 2 or 3 projects in development though.
