Anyone Know about Copyrights?

Does anyone know anything about copyrights? i have a situation on my hands and need some help.

Here is the scoop, my girlfriend has a CD that says it was copyrighted in 2008 but she says she got it in like Sept. of 2007. Now for my question, did she get the CD in 2008 or is it just some kind of flaw or just how copyrights work?

Anyone that can help it would be greatly appreciated! the band is a local band and she has history with the lead singer so I would like to catch her in a lie...

I know things like books can have mutliple copyright dates listed, but usually it is the original copyright date and the date of the current edition/printer.

I have never seen anything post dated, although if it was a pre-release printing scheduled for 2008 release I guess that could explain it.

Friend, if you're going out of your way to catch your girlfriend in a lie you have more important issues to worry about than a copyright date. It seems as if you suspect that something is going on between your girl and the guy in the band.

If you do suspect something along those lines, you probably have more reasons for thinking that than just a CD. Trust your instincts.

(I have never seen or heard of any copyrighted material being released prior to the printed copyright.)

I doubt it would be a misprint and people dont release CDs then stamp the copy right on them a year later.

I agree with damocles on this issue though

I bought a book in summer '07 that jacked me up every time I had to cite it because it said 2007 so it's not unheard of.

Don't know the girl but if you are actively trying to catch her in a lie you two are already fucked whether she's lying or not.

You may not be able to tell since copyrights don't have to be registered. But if it was, you should be able to look it up on the PTO website. Look for the date the sound recording was registered since there may be a different copyright for when it was written.

Copyrights don't have to be registered to get copyright protection so a lot of times people will just stamp "copyrighted" on shit without doing anything else. So, like I said, you may not be able to find out.
