I personally figure that pic has something to do with weeding out the cup half empty or half full folks at it's best. It certainly challenges you to question the impossible perspective and in doing so you have the desire to make it reality and not abandon your imagination.
It's true that life is largely mental masterbation but, everyone likes to rub one out occasionally when they get bored. It's just a pleasant way to pass the time.
Admittedly I don't love that painting. It's good but, I think the artist is condescending the viewer with comedy. Just my opinion.

Oh was not questioning manet's own meaning for the painting per se. I was just trying to get across that sometimes people over analyze every minute detail and often miss the meaning of the painting in the first place, or can't accept that part of the painting was a "mistake" or not.
Like someone said before that the reflections may of just been bad, and then another person stated that he intended it that way, and that to me is just over analyzing, like you can't really tell if he just did a bad job on those reflections or if he purposefully did it that way without actually asking the artist imo.
In much the same way ppl approached my drawing, a lot thought that I intended the hand to be that way when it just wasn't the case, ultimately though each person sees what they wanna see and imo that is art at it's best, when one painting can distinctly portray two ( or more ) different views on life. ( in manet's case the half full or half empty views )
Though I'm actually a HUGE fan of anamorphosis art, because it literally challenges people to look art in a truly unique way.
