Re: The Slip
Got my hopes up thinking you were talking about :
The Slip
Trent Reznor has lost what little edge he ever had.

Re: The Slip
News Flash. NIN has never been good. Its just that music was going through an angst filled period, and Trent Reznor helped fuel it.
Its the same as people who said the new Smashing Pumkins album wasn't hard enough. They were never hardcore, its just that in 7th grade, when our parents were against that new Rock and Roll, it was the perfect rebellious music. Same as NIN.

Ugh, Smashing Pumpkins...I forget where I read it, but the best thing I ever read about them included the following quote "Billy Corgan looks like a cross between Nosferatu and a penis."

Re: The Slip
You're the most retarded idiot I've seen post here in a while. That's completely out of context. In no way was I advocating either band. I said at the time, when we were kids, it was the perfect rebellious music, but that was a long time ago. In no way are they worth listening to now, and people are complaining that their new music isn't any good. Their old shit wasn't either, but it helped drive good music to what it is today.
Anyone who can read can derive the point of my post, except for you. Thanks for coming out, its been a while since I had a moron attach himself to me and smash his head into a wall trying to attempt to appear more intelligent than me.

You are obviously in the throes of pre-menstrual princess blues, so I'll cut you a little slack.
Tell me where I said you were advocating either band or why you thought it necessary to point out you weren't advocating them.
I find it interesting that you say shitty music (eg. Smashing Pumpkins or NiN of old) has helped "drive good music to what it is today". That's kinda like saying your angst-riddled textual diarrhea will inspire the next William Shakespeare... I guess our fictional future Billy Shakespeare could read your crap and promise never to be such a blatant emo-fuck.
By the way, your use of "derive" is shaky at best. Maybe you meant "deduce".
Anyway, Lao I think you, once again, for brightening my otherwise dreary Monday!

I'll start out with the obvious attempt to correct my grammatical word use resulting in a mispelling on your part. My word usage was proper. There was no mistake there.
Your removal of words in my quote followed by your typical use of gimmicky were more than enough for me to "deduce" your meaning.
Those bands, although shitty, and also lumped in with Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and other grunge/alternative bands were the driving force behind a huge musical revolution. It wasn't about the actual music at the time, it was about the image. The bands weren't that talented, but they created new genres and new sounds. That was what was important. There were good bands, but the main frontmen on the movement were the main shitty ones.
They weren't gimmicky. I think you're trying to make that word mean something that it really doesn't. Either way, if you agree with me on the fact that those bands (NIN and SP mainly) were shit, then I appologize for going off, but I don't like my quotes being misquoted. I don't have a problem being quoted, just not with words cut out.

Re: The Slip
Dude, quotations with text omitted (as shown by the ellipses [...]) are quite common - the words removed having little or no effect on the resulting meaning of the quote. So please, don't get your panties in a wad.
If I wanted to fuck with your quote, I would have and then I would have inserted the obligatory "/fixed", and then you could have bitched and moaned. In this case, I was agreeing with you and, at the same time, referencing our previous conversation about musical tastes.
You're mostly right about the "grunge" thing. The only thing I will disagree with you on is the "gimmicky" (eg. cluttered with gadgets or attention-getting details). From Britney Spears to Tupac to Grunge, its all about the gimmick, the hook, the demographic. Some gimmicks are just easier to stomach than others.
The worst of the worst is Neil Young being dubbed "the Grandfather of Grunge".
