Meph is right you should take the time to learn the real history behind the flag, and not just listen to what your grandpa tells you.

2. I couldn't give a fuck less about the flag, or anything else in the picture. I just enjoy bashing Meph for basically no reason. I think he said something unwarranted to me once, and I'm carrying it way too far just because. I don't care what he looks like, nor would I make fun of him if I meant it seriously, because tbh I don't really think anyone should be accountable for their looks on a game forum, of all places. Furthermore, I really think he deserves credit for having the courage to plaster his slimy mug up here for everyone (or, okay, just me) to make fun of. Finally, a photo can only say so much, and lacking context one can't even really tell anything about a person from it. With that said, I do think it's totally awesome that I managed to derail this thread after it being strong for like 82 pages or something crazy like that, so kudos to me.

3. If you missed the flag, either its presence at all or the fact that it's not there in the second picture, you might have been in a hurry, might have been captivated by those greasy curls of his, or just aren't as perceptive as you think you are. Or maybe, just maybe, you just missed a relatively trivial detail in a relatively trivial photo. Hmmm, nah, that couldn't be it.

4. Hating on gays is senseless and pretty blatantly offensive. You should be ashamed of yourself.

People don't fly that flag in support of slavery, not that it ever meant that to begin with. They fly it for heritage, now. Fucking relax.

Final example. if slavery was racist then I guess other Africans wouldn't of sold weaker tribes into slavery, would they? I mean they are the same race after all? kind of like Greeks that had Greek Slaves. ya?

How lucky for those slaves that their masters "favored" them so much. I'm sure they felt all that love and were perfectly happy with their lot in life.

Racism is not simply hate and nothing more. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another.

In the context of slavery in America, it would be very naive to believe that it wasn't based on race. Were it based solely on convenience as you suggest, once the shackles were taken off, these new citizens would have been given equal standing in the eyes of the law. We would have never had Jim Crow laws, nor would it have taken more than a hundred years to see civil rights legislation passed in congress. .

If former slave owners "favored" slaves so much, where did all the segregation, lynchings, burnings, discrimination, etc. come from once they were freed?

Nope, the convenient part of slave owning in America was the ability to justify the practice with the rationale that blacks were less than human and very much an inferior race.

Slavery doesn't even imply different races. It's just a matter of who you can subjugate. In a lot of societies, enemy soldiers were enslaved at the end of a war (even if said war was a civil war).
