Ya hi those existed for the same reason the KKK did it was the fact people didn't like the fact that former slaves were allowed on run free it was a by product of the sudden tear in society. Did they have all those things in England when it was allowed to happen naturally?

Ever watch the movie gladiator or know anything else about Roman society? When caesar gave them a fucking wooden sword they were free and citizen of Rome and no one questioned that. It happens gradually and with work like many other things in life. But after the "Civil" war society was torn and uprooted and radicly changed over night. People Fear change.

It only became racism after that when people started hating and fearing the overnight social changes. Lincoln knew that this change could cause that and it was his plan to offer all former slaves free passage back to africa, That was the main reason he was assassinated, someone figured hmm we freed them so maybe we can use them as voters and gain political power! at that time that would of been radical republicans IMO.

Lincolns assassination screwed over that plan and left the uprooted social structure exposed to get infected and fester with prejudice. It also screwed over places like Ethiopia were a lot of the Tribes came from.

You think people would be starving their if a bunch of former slaves returned home with all their advanced knowledge of farming and irrigation? I dont think so.

Slavery doesn't even imply different races. It's just a matter of who you can subjugate. In a lot of societies, enemy soldiers were enslaved at the end of a war (even if said war was a civil war).

Point of interest: Slavery still exists in the US legally, and still has nothing to do with race.

The 13th Amendment to the US Constitution:

Amendment XIII

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

As evil as I think placing any human in unvoluntary bondage, slavery was a commodity - like a luxury vehicle or a wide screen TV. Owning slaves was a status symbol. The more you had meant the larger your property and the more prosperous you were as a business owner.

There was an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute (when we studied the Civil War in school) where there were diaries written by the slaves describing the conditions that they were given. Slaves were rarely beaten - as broken slaves meant you couldn't attend to the fields and make the owner money. Slaves were educated so that they could produce better crops. (Were slaves beat? Yes, but the stories are few and far between and used as propaganda to entice the public to back the war when the war itself was about the seperation of the South into its own country and taxes.)

Many cultures took slaves of their own race as spoils of war. It had nothing to do with having a superiority complex over the other.

My husband and I own a ball python named Settra. This is her a few years ago. I love my scaly lady.

Edit: here are a few more of her taken last month. She's gotten so big in the last year. (She's about 10 years old now. They can live into their 20's.) I'd really love to breed her since her markings are just beautiful, but I'd have to find a male that I'm comfortable with. (I believe that the pet picks you, not the other way around) Buuuuut, that's neither here or there.)

We had another one (mine, really) but he died a few years ago. I'd really love to get another. They're such easy pets to care for.
