Because the people that didn't win are still striving to do something big. They still have that 'want' and urge. Once people win and they are handed a fat check, they just want to sit back and ride that wave of success for awhile. Meanwhile they are being forgotten while the people that are still working hard are getting noticed.

Many times (not always) an artists second piece of work is never as good as the first. Like part 2 of a movie. (I just watched house on a haunted hill 2) In this example, their first piece of work is finishing first place on american idol.

This is just my opinion...

People that don't win have that sense of failure but the want to turn it around and prove to themselves and to fans that they can succeed. Plus, they have sympathy from the viewers which brings more support from family, friends, and/or fans.

But unlike the failures, the winners have success handed to them, they just have to continue to hold onto it. The show wants Talent as a vocalist and a performer. Once they are off the show, the people want a musician...someone who can make something new instead of remaking songs by other people. Most become One hit wonders due to this.

Almost everyone can learn to sing, but singing isn't the same as composing and vice verse.

LOL Lao... Ummm they do not have a choice but to sing other peoples songs. They are given a list everyweek to a certain "theme" and have to choose a song.

David Archeletta seemed a little uncomfortable and I could not see him ever getting a good stage presence. I kind of wish David Cook had not won b/c it is kind of a jinx it seems. But Carrie, Kelly, and Jordan have all done REALLY well. Jordan is just getting started but I think she will last. Rueben, Fantasia (sp), and Taylor (whom I loved) were not that great IMO. There is one more, who am I missing?
