I have no problem with recruiting for religion. On your own time, and without a gun in hand. This guy was representing a government that admits it has no place in religion, and has rules in place restricting it from having anything to do with religion. To run around wearing hundreds of thousands of dollars in military equipment paid for by that government with an assault rifle in one hand handing out religious materials with the other implies that the government encourages you to believe in Christianity, under the threat of extreme violence.

Their problem is that it's their religion that is driving them to acts of terrorism against us. (Only illiterate or poorly performing muslims don't want to kill all americans according to their holy book the quoran) So we need to either convert them to another line of fairy tales so they will leave us the hell alone, OR kill em all.

Our problem is we can't seem to get behind either idea.

This is a completely invented "reason". The soldier violated a reasonable rule and will be handled accordingly. Iraq is being occupied until we're assured it won't turn into a hellhole on its own, whether the Iraqis like it or not; it has not a fucking thing to do with who decides to proselytize and when.

I'll agree that this marine did break a rule, and probably did send the wrong message, due to him having a weapon when he was distributing these coins.

That being said, I also can see Laodaron's point in a way. Those who condem christianity or condemn ALL religions tend to do the same thing that these "Fire n Brimstone" christians do... which is to piss people off.

I fully support spreading christianity, as long as it is non-aggressive and tempered with reason and understanding. Like say "Hey man, there is this option, and I think it's a great choice!".... if they don't like it then say "Ok, well have a nice day then, if you change you mind you know where to find me".
