If you can deal with their bullshit, work 5-40 hours a week (never know how much you will work) they have great benefits.. pretty much full time benefits for a "part time" job, and good pay, then go apply. But don't get your hopes up imo.
I never had a problem with hours at FedEx but you hit the nail on the head with getting your ass-kicked.

Since I was the new guy and pretty strong I always got one of the docks, normally loading. Let me tell you, T-stacking in a truck during the 90+ degree heat (110+ since the truck has been sitting in the sun all day) is as close to hell as you get. Congrats, you're breathing in box dust all day and the belt is non-stop with everything from envelopes to tires to Dell computers. Lose a finger in the belt? You're fault (I saw it happen once!), you weren't following procedure.

That said, the pay is relatively good and the health benefits are unparalleled for a part-time. Oh, and it's a mean workout, most the loaders were jacked up on roids.

Yea I was a sorter. So what we would do is pair up with unloaders and just go and hit trucks.

To sort you had to pass like 16 tests or some shit about zip codes. You had to read a zip code and know which of 16 colors it went to and put it there within 2-3 seconds.

But you got paid more.

We had one unloader guy, he was probably 5'6, 140.

First time I saw him people were like we need 3 guys for so and so, i'm like wtf? Then I saw him unload. Holy fuck.

3 guys BARELY kept up with his unloading. It was fucking insane.

Then I had another guy yell BRB at me I HAVE TO TAKE A SHIT. He didn't come back for an hour. That was an easy night

Plus I'm still in college, help, thanks.

I was looking at the classifieds and half of them are like "Buy our product for only $59.95 and start making 1000 dollars a week!".

Bartend.

I always thought bartending would be fun! I'm contemplating picking up a second job in the fall, I thought that would be fun :D

LOL Oisin I did work there when we had flare! Sadly, they changed our uniforms and made us boring. I had some of the coolest buttons and shit. They made GREAT conversation pieces. I had 2 sets, one for the main floor and one for the upper where the drinkers and smokers were. =)

I had four friends do the bartending school thing and were bartenders for years. Only one still does it and that's because he owns the place. It will either make you a drunk or piss you off being forced to hang out with drunks all the time from what I can tell.

Its great money and depending on where you get hired. You can probably take good care of your friends as well. Which in turn brings in even more tips.

I was in amsterdam a week or so ago and the bartender we befriended was telling us he makes around 70k euros a year. This isnt a large bar either... And he only has to claim less then half of it. They dont lose nearly as much as we do in taxes either. Thats a pretty sick fucking salary for working at a little pub 5 nights a week.

If you're doing a decent major in college get an internship or some other kind of paid semester of work. I knew a guy that spent six years doing an engineering degree because he took every other semester to do an internship in his field. But he came out with zero debt, a decent bank account, and job experience. Plus you get to try on a couple different actual jobs in the industry and see what you enjoy.

Something to consider at least if you plan to turn your degree into a job.
