Convenient isn't it that those same men didn't live in the age of automatic weapons, killing sprees, and the underground arms trade.
So while those quotes ostensibly support your viewpoint, they are about 200 years out of context.
But hey I'll compromise: A musket in every home!!

They are as in-context as Congress not having the power to limit speech, press, or religion. You're just using fringe items like automatic weapons to make the risks of this issue more extreme than they really are. We shouldn't be allowed to have private nuclear weapons either (in case you want to sneak that one in), but that in no way dissolves the foundation and intent of the 2nd Amendment.
There were always killing sprees and the underground arms trade back to the dawn of time, and your way of neutering the population to "deal" with it is the path to unfettered tyranny and dictatorship. That's just fucking history in the text, if you even choose to read it. But you probably don't, and four justices don't either.

Good luck with your armed revolution.

And yet the problems of random mass killings in public places, gun violence and murder on the scale we have today are almost completely unique to the United States when compared to other industrialized nations with stricter laws and regulation.

I don't believe in neutering anyone. People should be able to obtain rifles and handguns.
But gun ownership in a civilized society should be a privilege, one taken very seriously and not easily obtained.
So no, I don't believe that everyone has an inalienable "right" to own and carry a device that is designed to efficiently and easily kill.
And I'm positive that other developed nations with gun prohibitions/bans stand as firm testament that the fear of 'unfettered tyranny' in the absence of firearms is unfounded and complete horseshit.

Those nations have over 1000 years of history behind them too. They also have far more homogeneous societies;in almost every respect to other nations, the U.S. is unique. While assuming the only thing that prevents tyranny is an armed populace may be a stretch too far, it's at least as equally far fetched to think that removing weapons from law abiding citizens will somehow positively affect crime, violence and all its other underlying factors in the U.S.

Re: Yay for 2nd Amendment
Folks that get all bent out of shape, fighting for more gun control laws, should spend this energy focusing on implementing laws that make people happy instead. Prohibition never works and only empowers the less scrupulous.
Passionate activists should fight for civil liberties, not try taking them away. Our government is brainwashing us into detachment and isolating ourselves from each other. This division is the real problem. Quit thinking crazy Americans need to stop toting guns and consider that the government keeps taking away your rights and your neighbor's rights and the rights of that guy in the grocery store that handed you your change.
Look at it this way if you want. This is a double win if the wackjob anti-gun morons just find a new hobby and focus on the holistic happiness of their fellow Americans. Happy gun owners generally don't need to shoot others. People who want to fuck up someone's happiness won't need to be shot.
Show me the facts that prove that members of the NRA are more prone to murder with a firearm than people who have never touched a firearm before becoming a murderer with one.
The democracy of the US is deteriorating and defiled, armed citizens is the plan B tbh. Our forefathers where smart fellows.
Better education is the most important issue here imo. Then again it normally is.

There is so much shit that's extremely illegal that goes on down here because they can do it. Let's face it, you can make it so that it's illegal to even look at a gun. Doesn't change the fact that people who are determined enough will manage to gain possession of one.

Re: Yay for 2nd Amendment
Next they'll want to take my motorbike, beer, and gaming consoles away just because they've been known to kill if in the hands of a moron. Fucking pricks.
disclaimer: I may a bit to buzzed to be coherent so, I'm not posting anymore until sobriety finds me tomorrow. GL for tonight friends. Oh and responsible gun-owners, please try not to shoot anyone tonight. It might mess up my side of the debate.

How long do you think most democracies in history have lasted? You're still in the take-for-granted phase where you think we can be as careless and "progressive" as we want and not burn up every liberty gained in the process.
Everything follows a sequence. In Britain the current step is one public CCTV camera for every 12 people.
