wireless phone company retail store employees and hell even business support people are DUMBER THAN SHIT, holy cow I think i 've talked to 2 people that were worth a shit (verizon anyways). I gotta talk to them at least a few times a week (company with 400cell phones) and they just don't get it. I have to explain their job to them half the time and then the ones that get pissy and act like they don't know what I want I just have to hang up and call back. I usually get someone else that can add-subtract and multiply and I'm good to go.

The most common retail store trick when calling to see if they have any refurb phones is to put you on hold for 1hr+ and at the end of it all they hang up. Never understood why they can't say, hey we are swamped right now I won't be able to check right now but let me write down your name and number and I'll get back with you.

This applies to the retail industry in general. There are a few exceptions, of course, but the retail "front-line" is generally staffed with barely qualified people (which seems like a contradiction in terms of the skill set required for retail work), or apathetic students looking for an easy buck to pay their way through school, or some sort of spin on the disgruntled mom or dad, recently divorced and trying to rebuild their lives.

Admittedly, any of the people described above could be given motivation to work well and provide sparkiling customer service, but the bottom line doesn't give a shit about that.
