Its just recycled. Its not like mixed with oil that needs some kind of detox disposal. Think of it more of like coolant of a nuclear reactor. Very loosely a similar concet. Completely different process though.

I'm all for finding cost effective shale refineries. I just don't understand why the federal government can tell a state that they arent allowed to drill off their own coast. If a state wants to drill its their own decision.

More like how it is with a Shuttle launch imo. Water to cool down the area, evaporates and soon after rains due to the amount used.

I thought the clear reason was that an oil spill dramatically affects more than just that one state. My curiosity is more in line with where the authority to impose such a restriction comes from. Law of nations? Environmental laws have always been a huge gray area.

The electric car has pretty much been perfected, Ethanol has also come a long way. You're just not going to see anything thanks to gas giants.

And what have gas giants done to stop the electric car, short of not producing any? It's a free country, anyone can manufacture them.

Ethanol also takes a huge amount of water and reduces food supply. If ethanol is cheap enough despite the increase in food costs (all that corn is not being grown for food) to actually save money over regular gasoline, I have no idea. You can make ethanol out of other things than just corn of course, but I'm from Nebraska so of course we use corn. Ethanol is also hugely subsidized as far as I know, which means we're 'paying' for cheaper gasoline.

I'm not saying this because I disapprove of ethanol. I'm just trying to point out that many of our solutions have shitty side effects and what is best is rarely cut and dry these days...

The only thing that really pisses me off about these companies that build ethanol plants in our small towns, is that they build the plant and don't fucking hire locally. It's bullshit.

Corn is probably one of the least efficient sources of ethanol, something like a 1/1.5 energy consumed-to-energy gained ratio last I checked. I'm thinking the use of corn is more a gateway crop than the final one, just to get everyone experienced and familiar with the ethanol manufacturing process.

Same thing can be said for a lot of companies throughout the US.

IIRC, the major car companies have bought the patents or a controlling share in those businesses/technologies, then either shut them down, or never do anything with them.
