depends. You can pick them up from 250ish, all the way up to (petstore rip off price) 1600 bucks.

Downside is that they're expensive to feed and they have relatively short life spans, but they are awesome dogs.

The only pups I've seen (purebread blahblah) were 4k a piece. Where the hell would I find one for 250??

If you looks around, there's usually a couple of families who don't spay their dogs, one of their dogs got pregnant, and now they want to get rid of the puppies.

Got a purebred Great Dane for only 500 like that.

I think the AKC has listings as well, though not sure on the prices.
I work with a woman that was having a hard time getting rid of her registered golden labs.
Put them on AKC for a deal and was able to sell a few.

If you're on a budget and absolutely MUST have a purebred dog, try looking for a nearby purebred rescue. Even ones for other breeds or in other states/provinces should be able to refer you to the closest one for what you want.

Avoid pet stores, like I said earlier in the thread, and avoid people who advertise in newspaper classifieds. Both tend to breed w/out any standards and at a detriment to the health of the parents and puppies just to make as much money as possible.

Also, consider getting an adolescent dog (6-18mo). They're generally more available, take less work than puppies, and if you're good with dogs, they'll bond just as quickly as a puppy would.
