HBO: Films: Generation Kill

Anyone else watching it? Was anyone else over there at around the same time?

I think this show is finally a show about the Iraqi Invasion that shows a individual and collective level. Everyday people get to watch the leadership pawn off their subordinate soldiers hoping for awards, glory, and their own special place in history. They get to watch a sergeant major that has no idea how to lead, merely scream about a SINGLE standard that doesn't even actually make sense. I'm seriously addicted to this show. And then the lieutenant and the squad and team level sergeants are the only ones who ACTUALLY have to deal with the shit, and they get shit on the worst. I'm not a Marine, but deployed with the US Army, I fucking lived the exact same thing....and about 3 months after the Marines in this show went through....

I've been watching it, and I think it's pretty interesting. Missed tonights episode because I was on vacation but I can't wait to get back home and watch it.

I'm merely stating that this is a realistic view of how fucked upper echelon leadership is throughout the military, and how award hungry the same leaders are. Its pretty spot on with just about every facet....

The actor who plays the CO (I think) with the hoarse voice was outstanding. I saw the tail end of an episode this weekend and thought it looked pretty good.

Although I think his monologue at the end to be a bit over-written and high brow. It was why I couldn't get into deadwood, I just couldn't get behind 19th century cowboys in an armpit mining town talking like they were in a fucking Shakespearian tragedy.

The majority of the show is far from highbrow. "Hey reporter, roll over, it feels awesome if you put your dick on the ground when the tanks roll by" or something to that effect.
