All I was saying was that the reference to Civil War was vague. Not that "1812" close would have done the trick.

"Bunker Hill close" would have been a home run, though.

You must not be familiar with the Civil War sharpshooters. Most of the states had a regiment of 'em. Required accuracy to join up was tested at 200 yards, and as the war progressed, they didn't miss your head at 500 yards.

Some great battle stories of the roles various sharpshooters, though i'm finding it a bit difficult to sift through the internet for specific battlefields as examples without knowing their names to search for.

Rifle history will have to suffice:

"When paper cartridges which were sheared off by the gun's breech block and spilled powder in the action were replaced by linen cartridges, Sharps accuracy improved dramatically. All shots fired at 100 and 300 yards hit the target and there was only one miss at 500 yards."
The Sharps

...my employer held a 3 month long exhibit with daily speakers on Michigan's involvement in the Civil War... I'm crammed full of useless info now.

Haha, yeah perfect reference.

If I was a soldier and my commander told me to wait until I could see the whites of their eyes I would have asked him if he would rather us just throw rocks at them.

Pretty sure they had sharpshooters taking people out from hundreds of yards too though.

Actually the point fails in a historical sense. There were bayonette charges (and that's pretty close tbh imo) in Afghanistan involving British troops. No idea if the funding has become so bad the troops have to buy their own bullets now, or if they just ran out of ammo or got fed up with a long firefight. But they fixed bayonettes and rushed the bastards more than once.

Question. Why is it only ever in North America?

Said the man who was resident to the continent where all the largest wars in history have originated.

Err... okaaay.. Just to clarify I was talking about random gun rampages. They always seem to be in the USA. I'm sure people can point to events happening elsewhere, but it's a drop in the ocean compared to the amount that happens in the states. Anyone got a theory on a reason?

Edit: Gun control laws may or may not contribute, but the comparison between USA and Canada suggest otherwise. Plus, if you wanted to get an AK47 to go shoot up a shopping mall/school here, you could, very easily and very cheaply. Yet nobody does.
