I disagree. The US has one of the lowest violent crime rates of any nation. Might be THE lowest, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Was talking about gun toting rampages. That's all. Not crime in general, just the rampages.

Yeah, grats on watching that movie.
Some of the most extreme 20th century hand-to-hand combat was waged in the buildings of Stalingrad during its defense. Rattenkrieg-style.

And as I said, there was hand to hand combat in Afghanistan and probably Iraq too. Doesn't mean both sides didn't also have snipers taking people out from long distance.

Re: Rifleman on the Loose in Wisconsin
Note that VA Tech was a gun free zone. Lot of fucking good it did them to have no responsible armed civilians around.
So if you want to cite gun control, note that the places with less restrictive gun control laws also seem to have a lot less random violence (though targeted violence will always be common).
Kennesaw, Georgia (a major retail center due to Town Center at Cobb mall and the surrounding stores) has a law that requires the head of every household to own a gun. They don't actually enforce it, but the concept that any given person you may run into might be packing has driven armed robbery, carjackings, and other violent crimes through the floor.

Singapore, Malaysia, and places like that who execute for spitting in public are the safest countries in the world. The US doesn't come close.

Re: Rifleman on the Loose in Wisconsin
I'm sure it's a more complicated subject that just gun control laws, but the numbers of gun-related homocides is astronomically higher in the USA than any other country. There must be a reason for it. I already said that I doubt it's the gun control laws because Canada has a tiny proportion of the shootings the USA does, and guns are just as, or even more prolific in Canada.
It just seems like the states is the only place where it gets to that point. People have guns all over the world, but they don't seem to be so willing to use them to kill another human being.
Over here, there's a bit more gun related crime than there used to be, for some reason people are starting to think that if you're involved in something shifty you need to be heavily armed. That's fine unless the other party is also heavily armed. Inevitably in that situation someone ends up dead. But it's far from common.
It's become more common for kids to carry knives, with the same sort of obvious consequence when they get into trouble.
What you absolutely don't get though, is someone down on their luck/depressed/etc, grabbing a load of guns and ammo and walking into a school (or other busy place) and just opening up.
I can't really speculate why. I live in a country where you can spend a large portion of your life in prison just for possessing a gun. I keep thinking of situations where I could react by grabbing a gun and go out shooting people, but I'm not mentally unstable enough to do it, and I'm sure that goes for 99.9% of the population of the USA too, so I won't ask stupid questions. I just wondered if there's any kind of theory as to why there's all these rampages in the states and nowhere else?
Someone must have an idea?

Where'd you get these stats? Out of everyone i know, one person has a gun license (for hunting, thus no hand guns). I also live in the Toronto area, which (i think) lately has had the most gun related violence in Canada, but I cant find any supporting facts, so don't quote me on that. Just going by what i recall hearing on various news stations after some murders happen.
While Canada has a very tiny amount of gun violence, we also have a tiny tiny fraction of the population of the USA. Its currently estimated at 33.3 million, the state of California alone has 36.5 million.
Found this while Perusing: Firearms Regulation: Canada in the International Context Scroll down a bit for a comparison of US to Canada.
Information is old, but generally stats don't skew that much without sweeping changes in life style.
