Re: Obama's new Economic Stimulus / Energy proposal
Uh, no, they owe him nothing. It's business and that's just how it is. You didn't hear Reagan or Clinton trying to call in markers for "allowing" companies to make money. Obama's shift while insisting on a windfall profits tax complicates things more since such a tax would reduce the incentive to invest. After all, if I can take you for far more money just leaving things at the status quo than I can by adding to capacity, why would I do the latter?
Now that Obama is willing to support expanded capacity by allowing offshore drilling, how is he any different from McCain? What happened to the talk about long term solutions? Can't drill our way out? The environment? Conservation? While certainly politically wise, they now have near identical policies besides taxes.
I read the .doc, how does it make the matter go away? A president still has to be around to enact, enforce and maintain policy so the directions both candidates signify their willingness to pursue still matters. How does passing that bill constitute a wakeup?

Companies don't pay taxes, consumers do.

Okay, I didn't quote Wikipedia I linked to a page, and I'm not backing up a legal claim.

Here's the difference.
McCain previously didn't agree. He flipped to win votes after pressure from leading conservatives like Gingrich and his whole drill here/drill now campaign that is becoming a wedge issue.
Obama still doesn't agree with offshore drilling but, is willing to compromise to get more of his energy initiatives passed. If McCain had made a similar compromise to get some of his energy initiatives passed rather than just pandering to the right, then you'd be correct in saying they are the same.
They aren't. McCain is a sell out and is a politically expedient politician.

Hey, you think Oil companies pay environmental lobbyists to strangle drilling capacity to drive their profits through the roof? Now THAT would be an explosive story.

No, Obama is a flip-flopper here. Are you so vain with your messiah that you can't see it yourself? Is Obama so Christlike that a flip-flop is every single time a compromise, and McCain so reviled that a flip-flop is every single time a flip-flop? This just gets completely silly to read after a while. Tag, you're it?

Are you talking about McCain changing his mind about drilling after the price of oil increased 600%. Because that makes perfect sense to me.

McCain is pandering to his base. He's just confused on what his positions are. It's understandable. I think he's just grumpy and needs his nappy's changed.
