Obama's new Economic Stimulus / Energy proposal
The Page - by Mark Halperin - TIME
The quick version:
Another check this fall: $500 for individuals. $1,000.00 per family. Paid for by a windfall profits tax on big oil.
Also a $50B stimulus package, half for states, half for infrastructure.
He also threw in a jab at McSame:
Quote:
|
"John McCain has spent most of the past month not talking about his ideas, but about me. Frankly, I say this respectfully, he’s doing that because he doesnt have any new ideas."
|
Please commence to bashing and ripping this apart. Thanks in advance

Re: Obama's new Economic Stimulus / Energy proposal
You forgot the race card quotes. Besides that, I'm always worried by windfall profits taxes being used to fund anything. Were the profits gained by extortion or criminal behavior it would be one thing but beyond that it's very questionable. Besides, the plan requires he actually gets the votes in congress for the windfall tax.

Make him President, America... I dare you.
That is at what point I am at now. If folks can't see through the smoke and mirrors, then they deserve whats coming. I personally have my cans of bacon ready to survive the aftermath.

I’ve already called for an economic stimulus package on two different occasions this year, and much of what I’ve proposed has passed in Congress. These efforts have made some difference. But with job losses mounting, prices rising, increased turbulence in our financial system, and a growing credit crunch, we need to do more.”

Wait, I just read that. He proposed those ideas? Funny, I could have sworn he just supported them after being mentioned by his rivals, most notably Edwards.
Obama as president won't be bad per se, just different. He won't bring about the apocalypse but it certainly won't be "Change you can believe in"

Is canned bacon any good?
I mean, bacon is pretty much the best flavor ever invented, but from a can?

Yay, more wealth redistribution.
Off topic: Anyone else find the federal govt. giving states money like this odd? States can raise taxes too if they need more money.

Actually, that's on-topic, but I'm trying to figure out if it's a real question.
Are you not aware that the federal gov't gives the states money all the time?

Re: Obama's new Economic Stimulus / Energy proposal
It's a real question. What you really should be asking yourself is do you want to answer given the effort it would take.

Not really. Beyond what I've already said.

Because I'm right.

Re: Obama's new Economic Stimulus / Energy proposal
Oopo corrected me on the oil windfall profits issue. Given the amount of money the oil companies are actually making per gallon, it would be silly and socialist. And never ever trust that government will tie specific funding to the specific sources it initially claims.
$50B in more stimulus? From where, my pocket or borrowing? I don't think even Obama understands economics.
