They don't teach it because the rights of citizens( students) have been steadily eroded by the government in the name of security and order. My fix was a commentary on people who believe dumb shit like "innocent people don't run", "innocent people have nothing to hide", "innocent people have no reason to not talk", "innocent people have nothing to fear" and all the other dumb shit that walks ordinary law abiding citizens into harassment for crimes they didn't commit and prison terms based on pure circumstance.

Never volunteer to talk to a cop. ever. Look at what we're dealing with...
Drug abuser takes drugs and dies. That's usually about as far as such a story ever goes, but because of his "fame" everyone down to this guys maid's second cousin is questioned. They all passed on their 5th amendment rights, stupidly, but the one person who acts to protect her rights gets a "you should rot in hell forever" from some random asshats who never met the girl or the drug abuser.

They do teach it still at all the schools I've been to. They just don't emphasize heavily enough on each amendment and learn them by sets so they can pass the next test.
My Civics teach was batshit insane though, paranoid out of her fucking mind, so she went over the 5th amendment about 10000x times.

I'd blame more of this on TV shows like Law and Order, CSI, etc etc that makes people believe that if some kind of way you were connected to the crime YOU'RE GOING DOWN BITCH. Also another negative effect of detective shows has everyone thinking their some overnight sleuth or criminal mastermind. lol
People need to learn to keep their fucking mouths shut, and keep their business to themselves.

This is very true.
When the Feds raided my house I was ordered to sit on the couch while they tore apart the place. They laid down a stack of intimidating evidence and started drilling me with questions. At first, I felt obligated to answer because of the severity of shit I was in.. but fortunately I came to my senses and told them to talk to my lawyer.
