I think that any involvement we have should be held to indirect action, like condemnation of the slaying of civilians and peacekeepers, be the perpetrators Russians or Georgians.

lololol - WHAT are the international community going to do exactly? Russia is resource AND cash rich and a hell of a lot of the western world needs Russia for oil and gas.

International Community will do exactly the same diplomatically as they did militarily - fuck all.

Indeed, someone should explain what exactly they're planning to punish Russia FOR.

The way I see it, the only crimes against the USA committed here are:

a) Being Russia
b) Having a military of reasonable size and strength
c) Having oil
d) Ignoring warnings about being Russia and continuing to do so

All totally unforgivable imo.

Is there something being added to the series of events which is being banded around in the US media and nowhere else? Because I can't even see any justification for condemnation of this military action, let alone punishment.

You're kinda missing the point. Do you really think the sitting president of the US is worried about legitimate justification for anything regarding the use of it's military?

Given the above quote, I think the answer is no, thus rendering the point of asking what "for", completely moot. Bush doesn't think he needs a reason (and neither does McCain for that matter).

The fact remains, there is nothing we can do, militarily or otherwise, outside of pounding our shoe on the desk and blowing a lot of hot air around.
