Re: Does Russia Really Care What the US Thinks? - Ukraine Next?
After some thought.. I think that the US should just leave this alone and let the EU deal with it. If russia wants to evade its neighboring countries.. so what. As Americans, we have our own crisis here. We need to start worrying about ourselves. I say we just bring all of our military home, protect our own borders, exploit our own oil reserves and start fixing all of the crap that we've brought upon ourselves in the last 8 years under the Bush Administration.
I would love to see if the world can handle their own shit without the US getting involved.

If you think the US foreign policy is based on anything other than our own self-interest in the first place, you're sorely mistaken.
There is nothing noble in what we do any more. We pretend it is, but that's just a show for the folks watching (or not watching) at home scarfing down a pint of Haagen Daas.
But the rest of the world is on to our little sham. They have been for quite some time - lol

Fixed.
Not to say the U.S. hasn't done a tremendous amount of good in the world(still does as a matter of fact) but the myth of altruistic power has always been just that at every point in the Republic.

Agreed.
We just used to have a much better PR department.

The US has definately done some good in the world. However, I dont think we need to be out there right now. Our international ventures keep hurting us. It's time to pull out.

And leave it to who? Right now the U.S. is the only thing keeping the world stable. It may kill us but it's better than the alternative.

The Alternative: protecting our borders with our huge ass military and building up so when the world fucks itself over without having us there, we can step in and remind the world that the US is there to help.

Re: Does Russia Really Care What the US Thinks? - Ukraine Next?
When I'm feeling less lazy I'll look up a WW2 propaganda vid that explains why that is such a bad idea. Short summary-- it's a bitch trying to take back a world when your enemies hold 3/4's of it.

I'd like to know how much of American business is owned by foreign companies.
My point being, the world is not like it was back in WW2. Economics run the world right now. Military is just a tool we use to bully other people.. our muscles. Right now the American economy isnt doing so well. We might have our power with the military but were loosing on the econmic front. It's hurting us in the long run. We need to pull back, even if its just some, and rebuild. Our offensive tactics are getting us no where and causing too many people to distrust us. We need to rebuild that trust.
