The ACLU is right, here. You can't just lock down part of an american community and subject all people in that area to search because of the actions of a few individuals. And why just one section of the town? If you're going to go, why not go all the way? Put a camera on every street corner. If someone litters, FINE EVERYONE! If you arrest someone in for drunk and disorderly, take away liquor licenses for all stores in the area. If you find a child molester in that little corner of town, send in DCFS to take away every child that lives there, and even some young looking adults!

I don't care if 75% even 85% of the residents thought it was a good idea, it was still wrong.

I understood what you were saying, which was correct, it was more to the point that it pisses me off that these people are called conservatives, when in fact what they are doing blatantly disregards conservatism.

95% of the liberals I've met in my travels usually did not know why they were liberals, often doubted that their candidates of choice said and believed the things they actually said and believed, and insisted on policies based on knee-jerk passion well after hearing the facts and historical contradictions.

Until you live there and deal with the gunfire and death I suggest you reconsider how stupid the residents of the area appear. I lived within an hours drive of there for 7 years. When your town is taken over by violence then folks are going to want some law and order. The only other step which would almost be the same thing is to declare Martial Law and have the national guard come in.

Granted there are other ways to deal with problems but none within the resources of a poor small town come to mind.

The South doesn't have a lock on the stupidity gene, I lived in a lot of different places and you can find it pretty much anywhere. Ours are just more vocal and have more entertaining speech than yours do.

Kind of how conservatives point to Soviet Russia and 'Communist' China as representations of socialism/leftism regardless of how perverted those versions may be.

I agree with Otis though. "True" conservatives are a tiny minority at this time.

The way I understand the differences between Socialism and Conservatism is something as such:

A socialist believes everyone has a basic human right to healthcare.

Edit-and the government should take care of it.

A conservative believes a government has no right to force you to pay for someone elses health care.

At this current time these can't be reconciled.

Inherently, and I forget who said this off the top of my head, Democracy will allow a slight majority to tample on a large minority's rights.
