Actually the Romans were not Italians. Italy was pretty much tribal at that time, the Romans just rose up and stomped all over all the others (to cut a long story short). Italy wasn't a state until 1861, when the city states along the peninsula and Sardinia and Sicily were united under King Emmanuel.
And Pinski, the terms most people use is 'xenophobic'. Nationalism is a sociological ideology, sorta like patriotism, but different.
I thought about this, and we actually make a lot of jokes about the Irish, and have been doing so for so long, that it's become a sort of accepted racism/xenophobia. So I suppose there's a grey area. I suppose if you make a joke and someone tells you to stfu because they're offended, then it's best to assume they have a point and oblige with the stfu'ing.
