Around 1865-1870 when he ran Tesla Light and Electric he was trying to make an alternating current motor, but his backers and coworkers didn't believe he could make it work and fired him. He later did make a working alternating current engine, and it was before 1900.
Alternating Current was Nikola Tesla's idea for transmitting Electricity over wires, and he sold it to Westinghouse in the late 1800's for a million dollars.
He patented several of the ideas that were used for the radio while working on this "wireless power" that were stolen by Marconi and the patent for the radio wasn't given back to Tesla until after he had already died.
Tesla invented most of the ideas for, and owned most of the original works on Radar systems as well.
He was a man way before his time, probably even still ahead of where a lot of people are today.
I've read about 5 books and writeups on Nikola Tesla, I'm a nerd that way.
