Chelsea was never safe. She was attacked throughout the 90's by the Right with some downright mean jokes.

Far, far more.Even McCain had one along the lines of, "Why is Chelsea so ugly?Because Janet Reno is her father," that he used as a mulitshot joke at a fund raiser(beastly Reno, lesbo Hill, ugly Chelsea) in 1998 but he also went and personally apologized and made amends with the Clintons over it.
