Demonizing is a bit strong. He gave his opinion which people are free to do. He indicated she has to be herself and not seem angry. So he implied she's NOT that way normally just comes across that way sometimes. It's only a big deal to media matters because they need a story for the day.

If a family member is going to actively campaign then they are going to be subject to scrutiny. Chelsea Clinton was safe till she campaigned for her mother.

Militant anger is just the broad brush the right uses to paint her picture. Because it works. It's a fair shot. I don't think it's true, but that's up to Michelle to demonstrate. Which I'm pretty sure that debate is over after Monday night.

Chelsea was never safe. She was attacked throughout the 90's by the Right with some downright mean jokes. The only thing she had even close to safe was anonymity after being out of the White House 8 years. The attacks on her now are tame compared to back then, mostly because she grew from that awkward teenage girl into a fairly attractive woman.

Precedent does stand though, potential First ladies and everyone else is fair game when they do more than simply support the candidate.

Not over but certainly harder to push. Then again, those who were bothered by it probably would never be swayed anyhow.
