No, I give him the benefit of the doubt that he wanted to make progress in Iraq and that he thought more troops was the ticket that needed to get punched.
My problem is that's all the game he's got. Got a problem somewhere in the world? Throw some fucking troops at it.
My biggest problem with that is that it's supposed to be a last resort, not a first resort. We can't afford to continue to think that way.

I find your assessment divorced from his record and substantial history. Be careful of the overheated and amplified rhetoric of the campaign.A rational man is still in there and a fair reading of him beyond selected clips of "Bomb Iran" show he's not near as dangerous as he is sold to be.

I could not disagree more.
Singing "Bomb, bomb Iran" is exactly the kind of flippant thing Bush does. It demonstrates a complete breakdown in one's grasp of the situation. It's why Bush said we were on a "Crusade" and governed by soundbite with shit like "Dead or alive" and "Evildoers" and "Mission Accomplished".
Seriously, no thanks.

It was a light hearted moment read into too much. The man was in front of a domestic, local audience and after the joke went on to clearly explain how he saw the issue with nuance and detail. No love here for Bush but if we are going to use sound bites as a standard and then compare them to our sitting president, your guy is just as bad with the saying of the silly stuffs.

Sorry, if it were just a slip, maybe. If it were the only time, perhaps. But it isn't. This is McCain unscripted. Something citics like to say is a shortcoming of Obama.
But, and you should appreciate this, history has shown that he has a fundamental lack of finesse and basic diplomatic chops necessary to think three, four, five steps ahead of your adversary.
Going back to Vietnam when he criticized his superiors for not letting him bomb Soviet naval vessels in NV ports. For someone to think that was a good idea back then, doesn't show me a lot of improvement with his current antics.

Fair shot, fair point. No retort. I still disagree mind you, but I cannot argue that point at all save by taking shots at Obama's new foreign policy team and to retread old ground. The best I can say for McCain is that articles over time and his own nuanced responses to the pre- 9/11 events grants him leeway for me.
