I'm not an Obama fan, I'm not even voting for him.

And given the record of Republican presidents it's obvious why some people don't trust them to handle the economy. The president also has far more economic power than any city mayor. I figured that much was obvious, but if you're blaming the mayors of cities ravaged by NAFTA and deindustrialization for their plight then I guess maybe not.

That's a nice chart, want to add who the house and senate was controlled by then and look at it again?

Of course Congress plays the role of developing these bills, but the type of bills introduced depend on the type of policy involved and Congress rarely takes the lead on broad national issues. Instead it typically looks to the president for this policy leadership.

He also happens to be the guy signing off on them.

Or not doing so in the case of Clinton in 1995. The president is the single most powerful policy driver in the country and short of 2/3'rds opposition in congress, all policy is driven by his ideology. That's also the #1 reason party matters little in U.S. presidential politics; it is the individual who will ultimately be the decider.

This is the most disappointing political year in my lifetime:

"I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night's debate until we have taken action to address this crisis."

The media has been spinning it that way since he announced his suspension. It's more exciting and suspenseful that way I guess.

Also, the Huffington post is so biased I find it hard to take anything posted there as full truth.

As for McCain going back to Washington, I see no issues with it since it's HIS JOB and he's been one of the few republicans who have reached across the aisle in the past to get things done.

What's funny is the same guy who had no idea what the PPT is, is putting himself right in the middle of the bailout.
