As does most of the media, when in reality McCain never said that, what he said in his speech Wednesday was this:
"I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night's debate

The media has been spinning it that way since he announced his suspension. It's more exciting and suspenseful that way I guess.
Also, the Huffington post is so biased I find it hard to take anything posted there as full truth.
As for McCain going back to Washington, I see no issues with it since it's HIS JOB and he's been one of the few republicans who have reached across the aisle in the past to get things done.
