Here's how I see this statement benefiting Obama believe it or not. I have a collection of tin foil hats in my desk too....here we go.
Yes, I think Obama is purposely trying to bait the McCain campaign to overplay the sexism card before the debates happen. The GOP have been trying to lay the groundwork and make Palin's use of the sexism card similar to what McCain has with his POW card. Victimization plays well in the political realm.
In the lipstick on a piggate, it is easily defendable because first off, Palin wasn't even mentioned, second, both him AND John McCain have used this statement in the past, McCain having used it while referring to Hillary Clinton.
Secondly, it will bring to attention in a dramatic way, to what Obama was addressing in the statement and EVERYONE will be paying attention this time. He's going to cover it tonight on Letterman. He's going to lay out for people how McCain is trying to now paint himself as the change candidate when he sides with Bush on iraq, taxes, social security, oil, etc, etc.
Call me crazy but that's how I see it.

Eat shit, you greasy pacifist hippies. I am sick to death of the ludicrous anti-American ravings of you pissed-off geeks. Do you really believe the rest of us don't see right through your mental pathology? Your entire political philosophy boils down to this: "The cool kids picked on me in high school, and I can't get over it. I hate America."

The hysterical part is you are actually arguing about this.
