Default Opinions prz

Is it too much to buy my 22 y/o son a BMW? I have my eye on a 2003 325i with low miles in perfect condition for $16k, so it's not like I'm buying new.

He lives with me now in my new condo, I want to do something cool for him, but also don't want to be stupid. He said he'd rather have the used Beamer than a brand new "cubicle worker" car.

Maintenance on a BMW is not an issue, I have a brother who is a BMW mechanic.

Feedback is cool, I need to decide on the car by tomorrow.

Thx

If my budget was a little bit more, I was going to pick up a used beamer. But it wasn't, so I picked up a used lincoln LS.

I actually wanted to buy a used BMW for myself last year but ended up getting a subaru impreza for the AWD (it snows here)

Even with your brother being the mechanic, half the problem with the beamers are that the parts are still really expensive. So, if he can get those discounted or cheaper, NP then.

I think it's too much, but I really don't have much information. For example is your son working, going to school, is he responsible with money (if so, why is he living with you), what's his driving record like (tickets, accidents, DUIs) etc? Are you purchasing the car outright or will he be taking over payments and paying for insurance?

On a coolness factor, I think it's a really nice thing to do. If you have the money, why not? But, with everything that's going on with our economy you could also use this as a lesson: If you can't afford something you want, don't buy it until you can.

I think it really depends on your kid. If hes working or attending school and being responsible like Savana said i don't see anything wrong with it. I'm assuming its not his first car, if it is i think its prolly a bad idea. My parents were old school anyway and i was responsible for paying for my first car. which i think was good for me. I havent got one ticket or been in an accident partly cause i dont wanna fuck up my own shit.

I guess ultimatly i gotta ask do you just wanna reward your kid with something and the car came up, or did you really wanan buy him a car? casue i think if you think about it, theres alotta other stuff that you could get that would be more valuable to him as far as use. But if the kid needs the car or you just really wanna get him one cause you want him to have it. than i say go for it, as long as his shits in order.

Since you know a mechanic why not. My friend has one around that year and it's in the shop every other month.

get something with a warranty, even if you spend the 16g on a "cubicle worker" car. Otherwise, you're spending 16g + oops, i need a few hundred bucks for this, oops, i need 1500 for that, etc. You could get a used 2006 mustang with a 100k mile extended warranty for 16g (i did last june)

Spend another 8k and buy him a new H3. Theyre giving 10-14k off on 2008 and select 2009's.
