Default Physics Problem

I have no idea what the formula is if I have the initial velocity, final velocity and the acceleration. I know the answer is 3.7 seconds but no idea what the formula is to get it.

How long will it take a car to accelerate from 50 to 90 km/hr if it produces an acceleration of 3.0 m/secē?

change in velocity = 40 km/hr=40*1000/3600=100/9 m/sec
acc. = 3m/sec^2
time required=100/9/3=100/27=3.704 sconds

How'd you get the 100/9?

Edit: I see now. Is there any reason though to make it into 100/9 and not just divide 11.1 by 3?

does that make more sense?

100/9 is the lowest common denominator of (40*1000)/3600

not necessary, but can be helpful
