So, yeah, junk mail--spam, whatever you want to call it--has reached new heights. Today, I recieved a text message that advertised OEM software for 80% off list. WTF?! I pay for that shit, how the hell can they get away with that?

Anyone know how I can go about reporting it? How the hell do I get off some gay mailing list I never put myself on!? Any help would be much appreciated!

I now refer to RL spammers as Plat Sellers.

I have my home phone unlisted, never give out my cell number for anything & have signed up for the do not call lists - I believe you can get tips on shutting down snail mail junk from the credit bureau - not sure what to tell you about email/text messaging other than be careful where you use your "real" email addresses.

All else fails, find the gay man you pissed off and give him a footrub.

I thought I remembered a case where someone sued a telemarketer type company for calling his cell phone and sending him texts since he has to pay for that. Iirc, the telemarketer won. Pretty fucking lame that they can call us on our cell phones, making us essentially pay for the call, and solicite us with shit we don't want. I am not 100% sure on this, but I do recall something like this in the news a while back.

When I did teleservice (not telemarketing, i called exiting customers with service reminders, it was an awful awful job, i got hung up on 300 times a day lol) we were told that if someone told us it was a cell phone, whether or not they asked to be removed, we had to remove their number. It had something to do with that case, but they didn't really tell us what happened.

Before the Do Not Call Lists ever even came into creation, I never really got pissed off with telemarketers. They're just doing their job. I would get pissed off at the companies that hired these people to call me. The only thing I ever got nasty with a telemarketer is if they woke me up on a Saturday morning.

8am, I'm asleep. You wake me up to try and sell me a credit card or some kind of phone service, yeah, I'm going to be a bit miffed.

I'm recieving the same text, their also coming not from a phone number but from an untraceable 3 digit callsign: 501. I use T-Mobile, I've always just deleted them because I don't really care and hardly text anyhow, but I could see how it's a pain to someone who uses text messages and that's using their texting limits.

I think it's fucking stupid that some people have to figure in "spam text" into their texting limits. That shouldn't be allowed IMO nor should the customer be charged if the spammer pushed them over limit.

Depends on the phone, you can do it wirelessly if you possess the technical knowledge (with some phones). If not you're stuck spending the $40-ish to purchase the equipment.
