This whole tpye of marketing is pretty common. Its basically just a pyramid scheme and your first warning sign with any job is the word commision. Seriously though one bit of advice i would give you is if it sounds fishy either A) it is, or B)something isnt making you comfortable and you need to just walk away neways.
this kind of stuff can be find anywhere even stuff like financial planners. they cold call for a chance at a lead and if they get 1 they try and work that lead for more leads its all the same shit just a different animal.

Yeah, even though I made out pretty well, I wouldn't recommend working for them to any of my friends or such, unless you feel you have strong marketing and selling skills. Also helps a lot to live in a high income suburb's area, as the knives you gotta sell aren't cheap, that's for sure.
If you do start working for them, skip the meetings and conferences and all that crap they say you're "required" to go to, they won't fire you for anything, except maybe sucking real bad at selling.

I would have left but I didn't want to roam the streets of urban MA alone, Alania. ;D
I don't own poodles, Jonny. >P
I started to get that suspicious feeling right at the stupid radio but I was pressured to check it out anyway, Widem. I should have followed my instincts.
My only problem now, is I hope they don't keep calling my house...
Tion: I've decided not to at all. In fact, I was so turned away that I will not purchase CUTCO knives when I need to uh, buy... knives. I'm not saying it's 100% evil, it could be a great salesperson job, but if they presented themselves more professionally... yeah...

I also went to various Flea Markets, too. You would be surprised what people are selling for dirt cheap and what you can make a killing on.
You can start easy, actually. Ask your parents if they have anything they want to get rid of. Go through your own closets. Clothing, generally, doesn't sell well - unless its Niche (gothic clothing, fetish, costumes, anime, cosplay...shit like that).
But old electronics, old console games, collectibles, even old pots and pans that aren't in use - will sell. I remember I sold a cobalt blue goblet for $400 because two people were on a bidding war. It seems the set that it used to go to was discontinued and they couldn't get replacements anymore.
You can head to outlet stores, thrift stores, salvation army... There is a plethora of cheap crap out there that people will buy. You just have to be patient and know where to look.

This is actually the business that I'm in and I despise those cold calling systems. I worked for an agent that used them for a bit and I felt like I needed a shower after every call. /shudder
Another thing to look out for is a financial planner that wants to sell you insurance products, like annuities. Most of the time, these are not in your best interest and are only earning more commission for the rep.

I should have thought about that too. But no way in hell would I become a telemarketer.

I can find some really weird crap at the stuff they sell at the temples and churches. Old radios and CDs and stuff, but if I get the cash maybe I should try that. Thanks says the Rhos. Hehe.

I actually got into the business working for an individual agent doing things like filing, those dreaded cold calls, setting up review appointments with his existing clients, and some database input. As it turns out, I actually loved the business and have gone on to get my Series 6, 7 and 63. I'm working on my 24 now which will make me a Registered Principal. For me, it paid off just getting my foot in the door and working my way up. Just something to think about.

Ah. I'm a different type of person though, more reserved and shy. I might try to see if any veterinarian or dog care places are hiring when I'm 18... but it's good that you liked the job! Not many people can say they like their jobs.
