Our Alexa ranking makes a huge difference in the quality of advertisers we can attract, and more importantly, what they are willing to pay.

You can be a huge help, and it's easy.

Firefox users, please install this plug in:

it will only put a simple, inobtrusive overlay on the very bottom of your browser window that allows you to see the Alexa page rank of every site you visit.

Is there anything we can do besides installing Alexa? It's one of the worst pieces of spyware out there.

The Wayback Machine site is constructed completely off of web page archives that Alexa sends itself from your browsing.

If you can figure anything out, I'd love to hear it. The issue is, our Alexa score is far lower than sites with a third of our traffic or less. I've taken actions to correct that, such as installing SEO software for vBulletin - before, we were just running straight php pages, now they are converted to HTML for more friendly spider browsing. Also, I've added a ton of key words to our site listing, before we only had a few.

The problem is, Alexa scores are ONLY based on people who have a browser extension that reports back page views to Alexa. They are supposed to be non-intrusive, and the info about what you browse is only supposed to be used for the purpose of assigning Alexa scores to sites.

There is no valid reason on Earth why we should have less than half the Alexa score of sites that average less than 50 users on line. It sucks, I don't understand it. But I gotta do something to get this site above a bottom of the barrell Alexa score, right now we are getting robbed in terms of available advertising opportunities, and I can't do anything about that or attract quality, mainstream, premium advertisers until our score is raised.

I can't think of anything offhand. Maybe consult with Requiem of Uberguilds.org? Their advertising appears to be pretty successful, and I think their advertisers don't go off of Alexa rankings.

If you're trying to build a business off of this site (and more power to you if you are), you might even want to shell out of dough to meet with some professional marketers to discuss the best way to go about advertising.

It's cool, I'll just run liquor, gambling, and weight loss ads (they pay the most) until we can get our score up and attract more mainstream advertisers.

Regarding shelling out dough, I'm thousands of dollars underwater on this site atm, and am more looking to get some back rather than pay more out.

I think the advertising we are going to install with our upcoming facelift will pay better than what I could get attempting to privately market ad space anyway. I'm not going to allow porn or plat seller ads or anything that links to those directly, but I have selected the cheesiest product ads that Adbrite has available, ones targeting the lower tier of society, since those pay the most.

Another thing people can do to raise our Alexa score - post about www.eq2flames.com on as many other sites as possible, of course within reason and never spamming.

You should make some sort of PayPal donation thing. Then you can give them something for donating, like being able to change the title under their screen name for a month or something. Might be able to make a few bucks to help with site costs. I don't imagine anyone would have a problem with that.
