Re: The Sports Thread...
Usually I listen to ESPN when I tune in...local games aren't aired on anything else altho the Dallas Stars are aired here on a local FOX network but I believe that contract ran out unfortunately so I'm back to ESPN. I never had a problem with the professional commentators or ex-players and coaches come back to comment. ESPN Hockey Night was my fav night of the week...I would take over the TV and be able to yell and scream to my little heart's content while watching my fav teams duke it out...

Re: The Sports Thread...
I can't believe this is at 5 pgs. already...hmm..
Well, I like bringing up various things for us to discuss so I want to bring this up: The referee scandal in the NBA right now is looking like a huge cover-up to prevent people from realizing how easily games can be fixed based on someone's greed. So I am figuring that this is happening in all sports and am just curious as to when the investigators are going to get around to checking into the NHL, NFL, MLS, MLL, AFL, MLB, and any other League that I forgot the acronym for...How often do you guys think the referees play a conscious role in the outcome of games, especially big ones, like for example have four referees on the ice at once and nobody seeing Alfredsson intentionally shoot a puck into the mid-section of an Anaheim player in the final game of the series...

Re: The Sports Thread...
Quite possible that ref's are betting on games in other sports including the NHL. It wouldn't surprise me in the least. I do think it's a good idea to have investigators put into each sport to start tracking those who are suspected of this so that it's stopped.
I myself haven't heard anything coming from the NHL. The NHL commissioner likes to carry a big stick so I'm betting if he finds anyone taking bets or making them there will be a quick incoming boot from the game and a nice perma ban like what happened to the last professional baseball player who was caught.
We'll see tho...time to do some digging...

Apparently they didnt wanna overpay for players, but something is seriouslly foul if you let your top 3 scorers walk over that reasoning.

Agreed, they just cant seem to find a good fit. Fleury is their god for now and I still dont have faith in him. He can play well, but he's way behind Lundquist/DP/Miller.

This season should be....interesting...for us east coast fans

The Atlantic was great this past season, if only philly made it into a playoff spot. We wouldve had every team in the playoffs. I expect good things this year. So long as the games are entertaining, Im happy.

Mike started on the Rags back in 89/90. He wasnt that short, you might be thinking of another goalie. Vanbiesbrouck was shorter, but not that short.

Between him and Vanek, they are sitting well. Its really gonna be an interesting season. All the changes/trades are going to affect the entire conference.

Re: The Sports Thread...
I've personally been on the "The NFL is fixed" conspiracy theory for a while now. Actually, ever since 9/11 happened and the "Patriots" won the super bowl that year....then the next 2 years after....Then the first game of New Orleans Saints last year against the Falcons (not saying the Falcons owned or the Saints sucked) but seriously, anyone who watched that game had to see where one team was going to win before the game even started....

Re: The Sports Thread...
They say that sports are the modern day Opiate of the masses. I tend to agree. If there is a football game on around Pittsburgh, nobody would realize if California sunk into the ocean that day, unless we were playing the 49ers, Chargers, or Raiders and had to call the game early...

Re: The Sports Thread...
I know we have a handful of people here that are involved in the military and a bunch of people that are fans of the NFL. I know this story is a little old but there has been new information come up, as you will read in the article HERE and I was wondering if anyone could offer any information about it. I did not really know the player in question or the military involvement in the issue, but I am very curious about what is going on...
