Re: The Sports Thread...
I think that he can lead them, if he puts his desire to be a star behind him, along w/ all of the other big names that they have purchased in the last few years. The problem that the Rangers are going to run into is that w/ Jagr, Gomez, Drury, Shanahan, Rachunek, Straka, and Hossa and any others that I missed, is that there are too many superstars and the team risks imploding when they all are not satisfied. This is a problem that other teams have run into, plus with the new dangers of the salary cap they will not be able to bring in any developing talent like the Penguin have, for example.
Another thing to consider when regarding the Western Conference is that they are gradually losing their biggest talents to Eastern Conference teams like the Flyers, Rangers, and Predators who are trying to rebuild rosters and stack them with top-line players. There seems to be a high turnover rate on these teams, save Detroit, San Jose, and Anaheim that prevents them from establishing a solid core which in turn prevents them from competing.
So, after that long-windedness I think the Eastern Conference is going to boil down to the Penguins, Rangers, Senators, and Flyers this season. I only say Flyers because they have made some off-season and End of Season moves that have stacked their roster a bit and with some good coaching and teamwork they can compete this year...Your turn
