Default The Sports Thread...

Ok Rizam...so we agree that Jagr has skills and passion but is too whiney....but still the question is....can he lead NY back to another Stanley Cup or will they go another fifty years before winning again?

And even IF they manage to top the Eastern Conference how will they stack up to the teams from the Western Conference? ....speculations on my part go to Coloradao...or maybe to California...or Phoenix..

I think that he can lead them, if he puts his desire to be a star behind him, along w/ all of the other big names that they have purchased in the last few years. The problem that the Rangers are going to run into is that w/ Jagr, Gomez, Drury, Shanahan, Rachunek, Straka, and Hossa and any others that I missed, is that there are too many superstars and the team risks imploding when they all are not satisfied. This is a problem that other teams have run into, plus with the new dangers of the salary cap they will not be able to bring in any developing talent like the Penguin have, for example.

Another thing to consider when regarding the Western Conference is that they are gradually losing their biggest talents to Eastern Conference teams like the Flyers, Rangers, and Predators who are trying to rebuild rosters and stack them with top-line players. There seems to be a high turnover rate on these teams, save Detroit, San Jose, and Anaheim that prevents them from establishing a solid core which in turn prevents them from competing.

So, after that long-windedness I think the Eastern Conference is going to boil down to the Penguins, Rangers, Senators, and Flyers this season. I only say Flyers because they have made some off-season and End of Season moves that have stacked their roster a bit and with some good coaching and teamwork they can compete this year...Your turn

Wow. People in America still watch hockey? I thought we had ran this lame sport that only requires that you can get hit hard and stand up again out of here.

Nah, hockey is changing over the last few years. With the crackdown on rules and recent changes it has become more about speed and skill. The guys that only hit hard have been catching a ton of flack from announcers and fans because they are virtually useless when every other opposing player can skate circles around them.

I revere hockey the same as I do soccer. No goalie, and no contact. At all. That's a sport. That takes talent. And the score is above 1-0.

I would also throw in that American Football is easily the worst and lamest sport that there is. I don't understand that you can make millions by just lifting weights. Other sports require natural skill, football only requires that you are strong.

Because Wump hockey is still a sport. Sorry I am of Canadian heritage and grew up watching it as a kid cause there was nothin better on TV so I got hooked. Also note the European hotties that play hockey *drools*. That mullet that Jagr sports is hot....sorry personal opinion of a hooked female fan.

Lao...this sport is still alive and well my friend Glad you just found out I'm a major ice hockey fan. Go Rangers!!!!

Good points Rizam...I'll have to keep an eye on the Flyers...my old teachers grew up in Philly and we were forever at odds because I never liked the Flyers...just something about that team has always turned me off...

This year should be interested to say the least...I'll have to go do some research and see what's going down in the NHL so we can have a good indepth discussion. In the mean time I needa go lay down...pulled a muscle in my shoulder so can't type for very much longer...I hear the Tylenol in my bathroom is calling my name..

Kewl beans thanks Rizam...I do still like the Penguins...wish Mario could come back to play...but I suppose that is wishful thinking on my part../sigh
