dpsing as coercer=nobrainer?

I quit during RoK and just returned... and I'm sorry but dpsing used to be much more fun during RoK than now. The <20% mana to keep base dmg up was at least something to keep my attention on. And made dpsing at least a bit more tricky especially vs specific encounters. The new reactives are much easier to handle as well, especially vs aoe encounters (don't get me wrong, reactives DID need a change since the previous version disadvantage the coercer vs high avoidance tanks which is absurd afterall).

And it really seems like everyone is playing a coercer now. And everyone is parsing high now, no matter for how long they play their coercer. Don't get me wrong now either, I agree the <20% mana along with the reactives weren't that much of a big deal either but one thing surely didn't occur: players new to this class had no chance to parse high at the very beginning of their career. They at least had to get into all this multi tasking... of managing their own <20% mana with no reg gear while fully dpsing, their reactives, the grps mana, the mezzing etc... multi tasking was part of the uniqueness of this class... and they reduced it by a great amount.

Now I see coercers who just lvled to 80 within a week who never played chanter before... who are parsing at the very max already - nothing but gear, masterspells or max AA could improve their dps... before it took some time until chanter learned how to max dps while fulfilling the support role of the class... this is no longer the case... I could let a monkey press a single macro with one spell rotation in it for the same dps result...

Nerving the proc dmg is just another thing to make this class even easier - occurs for all classes but especially for coercer who have such a high demand on base dmg... proc gear at least gave me another way to customize my gear... taking proc dmg into account to my current base dmg, spell dmg, crit dmg was just another thing to worry...

Ok, I got some conflicting answers on Velocity when it comes to melee vs ranged dps. From my understanding, the 78 dps mod from Velocity only benefits a melee based attack. But for arrow/thrown ranged attacks, it does not benefit... ie a Ranger would not need velocity unless they melee'd. Other's have told me it buffs both.

Clarification please.

Coercer deity

I recently returned to EQ2 and an rebooting my coercer. I see that a new deity, Anashti Sul, is listed as the most preferred god for coercers. This appears to be based on two of her blessings (Hand of Death and Crippling Blow) and her miracle, Undying Fury, which provides a 25s buff that grants +25% spell crit and 33% double spell attack.

Since my coercer is in his mid-20s, it is not clear to me how Undying Fury would be better than Sol Ro's Incinerate (which does ~17K if under 50% health) or Innoruuk's Maestro's Song (which I believe can do 9-10K). It seems to me that one could expect 3-4 spell double attacks and 3 crits over the course of the 25s. How much damage can a coercer do with this many double attacks and crits? I do not think that our reactives benefit from spell double attack. Therefore, I have a hard time believing that a coercer buffed by Undying Fury would be able to match the damage provided by Inny's or Sol Ro's miracles.

Also, why is Innoruuk not listed among the top 5 preferred deities? Surely, Innoruuk is better than Brell, and I would say that his miracles are superior to those of Cazic unless one is into PVP. The primary downside I see is the cloak, which provides a useless power drain/buff.

Coercer vs Illu raiddps

Hi,

I'm a returning player, going to fill a chanter spot in my old raidforce... since I usually play DD classes, I want to aim for the chanter with the higher dps potential.

I'm mainly focused on the dps. So who of the two chanters would parse higher numbers in general raid scenarios, well geared in the mage grp?

I did go through the illu and coercer parse thread, but since both mostly came up with different scenarios (tank grp as coercer, mage grp as illu) with no dps of the whole raid either, I couldn't make myself a picture.

I really only care of the dps in the direct comparison of the two, in a perfect group and gear scenario.

My guess goes to the illu since his endgear is more dps aimed? But I have no idea... just don't know what they changed >< last time I played, chanters still had to go <20% mana to even go for dps... the decision was fairly easy back then, since coercers had a hard time to parse higher than illus due to their reactives which only procced when the tank got hit... causing burst dps mostly instead of constant parses...

But this has all changed from what I read... how is the situation nowadays in terms of dps?

I hear little remarks such as "oh I wish <insert other coercer name here> was here :41:. I'm trying to keep the tank and his healers power up am i wrong in focusing on the MT group and throwing manaflows to the other 3 groups when our power seems stable or whenever i happen to get a chance i dunno kinda irked me:41:. my thinking was hell if MT and his healers don't have power we're all fucked anyways auto attack ftw! :46:

oh yeah 2 illys in the other groups /shrug any input would be helpful
