Re: Allakhazam is hiring
I always thought you were better @ grammar than picking stuff people want to read
You people would need someone like me (not me personally no time to devote, unless I quit my rl job *ponders*) a hardcore/ex hardcore raider to cater to the eq2flames crowd, and you guys already cater to the casuals.

Re: Allakhazam is hiring
I think Community Sites more or less cater to the masses. It isn't very profitable to pinpoint a small demographic, and I imagine that our bosses are looking for their sites to be successful.
Not to say that the raider/hardcore set aren't important too, they are. They are just far more difficult to write for. And I'm not sure a lot of hardcore players wanna take the time to do the things we have to do. Most days my job is nothing more than basic data entry. If it were all about sharing my opinion, I'd be in heaven and I'd likely not be getting paid. ;)

Re: Allakhazam is hiring
I tell ya, I'd be thrilled if they hired us a raider dataminer/editorialist! I'd even fix the grammar! We can hardly keep up with the "masses" content, lol.

I honestly can't speak for other networks. I know we try and pay most of our staff because a) it's a motivation and b) it's a way to hold people accountable. I've brought on board a few volunteers and if you have already submitted work to a network you are applying with, that is a huge plus in your favor. Our bosses will take our recommendations to hire someone over picking someone themselves almost any day.
Sav is absolutely right, if grammar were THAT important I'd have been let go a long time ago. It's about understanding the community as a whole and being able to pinpoint what they want to see.

Re: Allakhazam is hiring
Niche markets can be just as successful as the masses, hell look how well this site did when it actually catered to the niche of 1% of 1%.

Success of EQ2 flames depends on who you ask. Are you measuring readers? I have a friend who couldn't call this a crap site anymore after he saw Devs posting.
Raid content is some of THE hardest content to write for/about. I think we are the only mainstream network to even try it....other than...hehe Tamat.
Why?
A) Raiders are dramatic/passionate - They have a FIT if someone is getting credit they feel they deserve. Not mentally healthy, but no law against it. It does make the wise person wary about covering the topics.
B) Media doesn't have the time to dedicate to it - I know many people only spend X hours a week raiding now but how many hours did you have to spend before things got routine? Did you waste days in the old EH? We're busy writing stuff so can't really put in the serious effort required no matter how much we like to.
I normally went to people I knew raided frequently and bounced my own ideas off them. That's a big part of doing this job well is realizing what you can do yourself, and realizing when you have to go to the experts.

Only since the SoE forum crowd moved in, some were here before, but I call the downfall of this place, somewhere around the time when winwin came over. Just in my eyes though.

I saw the bottom part there, but still the problem is that it is not a hardcore raider doing the writing, and to Tamat, same thing. That would be like a kid from mcdonalds running a platoon of marines in Baghdad, it just doesn't work. (yes I just called casuals the kid @ mcdonalds, as hardcore raiders usually work together like well oiled cogs)

Re: Allakhazam is hiring
lol. I've actually when watching Flames since day 1. I started posting when it became appropriate for me to do so.
I'm always happy to publish articles written by more hardcore. In fact, I'm currently looking for someone to do a advanced PvP guide for our site.

Aye, I know you, Radar, and a few others have been posting here since day one, but I am talking about the newer wave, mostly that has come since the devs starting accepting us hooligans over here.
As for the PvP guide, you should hook up with Faab's or someone similar.
