LootDB item search is much faster now after database upgrade.
I have reindexed the main collector database and optimized SQL queries - results should be sorted by relevance now, and ten-fold faster. LootDB currently runs on Quad Dual Core 3Ghz Xeon server with 8Gb RAM - beside clustering there isn't much room for upgrades ;)
Search queries are quite complex as several db tables are searched/joined/sorted, with two of them having 2mln+ rows.

Yup, much faster now. Could go make a cup of tea and still not have the page load before (ok exaggeration, but you get the point ).

Re: LootDB - check out and contribute
Phrozen, can you elaborate what are you searching exactly and what's your teapot's brand/model?
Is this slow search originating from the search on the frontpage or the advanced search page?

This Kettle, so I cheat in the fact it keeps boiling it every like 10 minutes :P
And it was always pretty slow for me searching from the Front page for a particular item, Say searching for "Charm of" to see the Avatar charms, and it'd take a good ~30-40seconds to load for me, whereas EQ2LL was almost instant, but yours is a hell of alot better now, it's almost on the same terms as EQ2LL, so worth using now

How do stored procedures alone improve performance? They just execute the same sql that you could have executed otherwise.

Re: LootDB - check out and contribute
I can only speak for Microsoft SQL but I believe mysql has the same... stored procedures have cached Execution Paths assuming that you don't use concatenated SQL in your stored procedure.

Re: LootDB - check out and contribute
Cached execution paths is comparable to, let's say, compiled code vs interpreted code? I only know oracle first-hand, and oracle does that internally, freeing the user from having to use procedures for max performance.
