I don't know what a competent class is. Do you mean competent players? Because again, the best would parse highest, then the chunk of really good players would be next, and then the good, average, mediocre, and sub par. There would be a DEFINITE bell curve as well. But there wouldn't be a 95% doing any of the same.

Everyone has different opinions on gear too. Competent players still make some horrendous choices. Part of being good is knowing what gear to use, so you cant just give everyone the same shit because what one person wants is not what the next will.

The only people who claim that this game isn't about skill are the players who suck. The ones who are at the top know they are at the top, and as a Conjuror, I can guarantee that that has a lot less to do with gear than you think.

seriously wiser words have not been spoken in some time.. elitism aside skill is every thing from selecting the right gear to implementing the right spells to setting up the right groups to selecting a guild who recruits the right classes, to buying ht right masters, to farming the right zone for the plat to pay for said masters =p... the game is all about skill.

I don't care who you are it's about skill. If you think there isn't skill involved you likely do not do well or are trying to make yourself look good. Some are naturals and it comes more readily but it's skill nonetheless. I don't care what class you play to be top of the game in it you need to have skill in it.. doesn't make amends for attitude or personality but skill noentheless.

Skill in an MMO is not the same as skill in a FPS. Being able to twitch in a FPS does not make you good at an MMO.

Skill is intelligence for MMOs, rather than reaction. If you don't understand this, then you should just stop playing now.
