Re: Most Influential Mages of all time??
Its hard to put them into words, because as soon as anyone does, they get attacked about the game not only being about raiding blah blah. Kaalia is considered a joke by alot of people. Ideas that are ridiculous like someone perpetuating that idea of battlemage across the game is what is ruining this game in the long run.
I'd say that criteria for influential mage would be that all mages across the board KNOW who the mage is. They know that the mage knows the game, both casual-style and hardcore. They know their personal class inside and out, AND they know the other classes and can easily tell someone basic ideas to maximize their character. They understand raiding and soloing, because you'd have to know it all in order to influence people in that direction. The most influential mage should also be someone who has rallied for AND gotten community acceptance for either something broken, something new, something interesting, something obvious, etc. Not just some lame, weird, and wasteful Battlemage fantasy that makes healers do more work. BTW, I've tanked several T7 Epics with Lao....does that qualify me as well?

Actually, I do enjoy being a jerk and having fun on the forums, but I have posted my pic, thus showing my face. So I guess that makes me some crazy fucking macho man? If I wanted to be nice I wouldn't have been banned on the official forums twice, I like to tell it how it is. That site is a piece of shit and the contest is a joke.

Thank you, couldn't have said it better...Kaalia fits all the criteria you have stated, I used "Tanking Mage" because it is a controversial thing to say. It would be easy to say that Kaalia now has infamy on a few websites and will problem be known by many, by the names that have been slung at him on this website. Others know he is young and has a lot of growing to do, but they are willing to give him a chance.
My hope is that younger people who are willing to share their expertise with us common players, will aspire to loftier goals, maybe kind, caring Mages who will take the places of the older crotchity Mages that may someday fade away.
Maybe now, with a better awareness of the mage sites, the new and younger mages will contribute, you just have to be welcoming. Sending a"Warm Fuzzy" your way!

You think the contest is petty? Whining about it is petty. Mages have largely been ignored in the sense of community for some time and she is trying to inspire conversation and to better facilitate understanding of just how the mage/enchanter/summoner classes work. I really don't like to be rude, but show some f'ing respect.

Really quickly, Ring...I think that Kaalia is not deserving of this title. I think that Kaalia's "Battlemage" is a very dumb idea, and I think that to give Kaalia the influential title would be giving young mages the idea that is an accepted path to take as a mage. As it stands, this "Battlemage" idea just makes the person a shitty DPS, and a shitty tank. It basically removes any purpose they serve in the game.
I don't expect you to know this only because you've stated that you don't do fansites often. I'm not comg down on you, I just want youto understand why this should go to someone like Calaglin, Ishbu, or Renaven.

Re: Most Influential Mages of all time??
The contest is run by EQ2BattleMage, Kaalia is a Battlemage, therefore he should win!
Kaalia for most influential Battlemage! Go go underdog! (It'd be WAY funnier if Kaalia won this title, and who wants the other assholes to win it anyways?!)

Re: Most Influential Mages of all time??
Kaalia is a retard. He should win Retard Mage of EQ2. Not influential. Cause I know that there aren't any mages he's influencing.

Re: Most Influential Mages of all time??
Well for the record the statement it's not all about raiding or any verbal beatings of such a thing never has or would come from me. Raiding is extremely important for this game .. hence the term end game. I understand how some don't feel this way but it's a major portion of the game, and can't be brushed off as just the elite do it, more people raid than not I would risk to assume.
As for eq2battlemage being "blamed" for the polls not going as intended at first or that not all of the nominations were up to par with some standards... It's a public poll. If it was the hey I'm going to pick who I think is the most influential mage contests then Calaglin would be getting a nice boring blurb on the forums yay thats very exciting... the point was anyone could be nominated. The community would pick from those nominations the right one, thats how polls work. Everyone deserves a shot at nomination even if it is not likely they would be selected by the community.
Everyone got upset but once united and the community got together made a decision and acted on it there was a mass of support for a elder community member. LFG called for support Ishbu called for support and look at the results. The world just isn't that miserable. A lot of people have acted very classy when they could have acted otehrwise, for them I really appreciate it. Shows a lot of character. Couple people earned a lot of respect from me this week, and likely others who feel similarly.
